Liverpool one step away from incredible transfer that will transform the club
Liverpool are on the verge of an incredible transfer that will surprise everyone.
This summer could be nothing like we've ever seen before. Liverpool are on the verge of a full scale reset. If you thought last summer was massive in terms of player turnover, just wait until the end of this window.
The changes sweeping through Anfield are going to blow everyone away and come the end of the window Liverpool will be left with something entirely new.
At the centre of this shift is the arrival of Andoni Iraola, a manager who is radically different to Arne Slot.
His football is aggressive, vertical and unforgiving, built on constant pressing and rapid transitions that leave little room for hesitation. A bit more closer aligned to the kind of football Liverpool played under Jurgen Klopp.
But that’s exactly what makes this appointment so significant. Liverpool aren’t just changing a manager - they are returning back to their old ways.
Training methods that have become a little bit more relaxed under Slot will shift, tactical structures will be rebuilt, and the type of player valued by the club may change dramatically. In many ways, this will be a reconstruction of the team.
That change is already happening, with Liverpool saying goodbye to the key old-guard.
Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have all departed at the end of their contracts, closing the book on three careers that helped define the club’s modern success.
These aren’t just squad players leaving on a free, which you would come to expect. They are pillars being removed all at once. Salah’s goals, Robertson’s leadership and Konate's defensive presence will leave a gaping void in the squad.
The timing makes everything more volatile. Liverpool are not replacing one player, brick by brick but they are ripping out the entire foundations of the team.
In their place, Liverpool will build anew. But the pressure is on. Get it right, and Liverpool could emerge reborn, sharper and more modern than before. Get it wrong, and the club risks drifting into a prolonged period of instability.
The changes so far though are only the beginning. More is on the way.
So many players have uncertain futures at Liverpool beyond those who have already departed. Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez are on the final year of their contracts, both have attracted interest from elsewhere.
Alexis Mac Allister is also sought after and the club seems open to selling him for a profit.
But the biggest question mark could now be about Cody Gakpo. According to Soccer News as per Sports Witness in the Netherlands the Dutch international has expressed his 'clear desire' to leave the club after the departure of Arne Slot.
Now this puts him just one step away from leaving the club. After all, Liverpool will be open to a sale given that he doesn't quite fit into Andoni Iraola's system.
For the right price, it makes sense to sell Gakpo.
But this would still be an incredible piece of business. Getting rid of your first choice attackers on either wing in the same summer is unprecedented. Selling Gakpo, when Liverpool are so short of attacking options at the moment will undoubtedly surprise everyone.
However, it's a smart move, and it will allow Liverpool to completely transform their attack, which is exactly what the Reds need to do this summer.
