Richard Hughes willing to sell forward for premium fee

Liverpool are in the process of overhauling their forward options.

The Reds have already lost Mohamed Salah after a decision was reached to rip up the Egyptian King’s £400k per week contract one year early.

Candidates to replace the 34-year-old are reported to include Bradley Barcola and Yankuba Minteh. And on the other side of attack Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has already added Victor Munoz.

The Spanish FIFA World Cup winner adds to options that already include Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha. The 17-year-old is set to play a bigger role than ever under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Cody Gakpo could leave

And there remains the possibility that Gakpo could be among the players to leave. The Dutchman, 27, has been at Liverpool since January 2023 - signing from PSV for around £37m.

He is under a long-term contract at Anfield - inking a massive £250k renewal last year under Arne Slot. But it could be argued that the Merseysiders have not seen value from that contract deal as yet.

And with Barcola set to cost somewhere in the region of £145m the Anfield club need to rake in some much-needed cash.

Gakpo to be sold 'at a premium'

According to a report in talkSPORT Hughes is willing to consider a deal for Gakpo at the right price - which at the current market conditions might be for around £70m.

“Cody Gakpo will either stay or, under the right circumstances, be sold at a premium,” the report reads.

Fenerbahce tried their luck earlier this week per a report in Fanatik only to be told that the Netherlands forward would only consider moving to a team in another top-five league.

Tottenham want Gakpo deal

Into the frame could step Tottenham Hotspur with a report in TEAMtalk now claiming that Gakpo is on the list of alternatives to Savinho.

Should Roberto De Zerbi’s side fail to land a deal for the Brazilian then their chase for a new forward could lead them to Liverpool.

If and when that happens we could see Gakpo sold for a sky-high fee and Richard Hughes reinvesting the money into a world-class forward like Barcola.
