Liverpool must sanction return of 40-goal star after Hugo Ekitike update

Liverpool have hardly had a chance to see their three marquee signings play alongside one another this season.

Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak have all all played a fair few games for the Reds this term but their recent 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain was the first time in months that we've seen all three together.

And, to nobody's surprise, that ended up being cut short when Ekitike went down due to injury.

Up until Thursday afternoon, nobody knew the extent of the injury but, unfortunately for the Frenchman, it's the worst news possible.

Liverpool have confirmed that Ekitike has suffered a rupture to his Achilles which could leave him out for the next 9-12 months.

This means that Liverpool could be an attacker down up until the next January transfer window, that is, unless they bring a new player or two in, of course.

Darwin Nunez could make his return to Liverpool

Even though most fans were happy to see the back of Darwin Nunez in the summer, there has been talk of the Uruguayan making a return due to the lack of playing time he's being given at Al-Hilal.

The attacker has had a tough time of it in Saudi Arabia with his club actually leaving him out of their squad for their domestic league.

This meant that the Uruguayan was only able to play in the Asian Champions League and, since they were booted out of the competition on 14 April by Al-Sadd, Nunez isn't eligible to play any more games for the rest of their season.

Nunez's lack of playing time has obviously led to many rumours emerging about his future with several clubs across the globe interested in signing him.

However, due to the extortionate wages he's receiving from Al-Hilal, any potential deals will cost the buying club an arm and a leg.

But, if the attacker is unwanted by the Saudi Pro League team, they may be willing to move him on for cheaper than many expect.

Darwin Nunez would be an interesting addition for Liverpool this season

Even though Nunez's lack of form in the final third for Liverpool was rather frustrating, there's no hiding from the fact that he created countless chances for the club.

Whenever Slot chose to use the former Benfica man, he was often a facilitator for Mohamed Salah, much like Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo were.

And, due to the positions that the 26-year-old got himself in, he was a rather creative force when used in the correct way.

Creativity is the exact thing that the Reds are missing this season and, seeing as though most of their attackers seem to have lost half a yard of pace since last term, the injection of pace from the Uruguayan would be welcomed.

No discussions have taken place between the parties just yet but, if Al-Hilal want to move the striker on in the summer, Liverpool should throw their name into the ring and try and re-sign their 40-goal machine.
