Liverpool have a real chance to sign a Real Madrid star. Another deal could well trigger something.

Liverpool's midfield needs a big boost. We're not actually sure that boost is on the way, however, as a crazy transfer market limits what the Reds can do.

Homegrown players are worth a fortune and yet Liverpool need a couple. They also desperately need to sign a winger and that's not going to come cheap. Not at the level they hope to sign, anyway.

It won't necessarily leave much room for the midfield. But again, Liverpool really need to add something new in the middle after a campaign in which they struggled badly to control games.

The squad lacks bite in there, with little ability to win the ball back. But who's out there to fix that at a reasonable price?

One option is undoubtedly Eduardo Camavinga - a player Liverpool first tried to sign in 2021 before he moved to Real Madrid. We've already mentioned the Frenchman as a solid signing this summer and that continues to be the case.

The Manchester Evening News claims that Camavinga is very available for purchase, with José Mourinho not seeing room for him in the squad over there. It's at the point where he could move for £42m - a bargain price for a midfielder with elite quality.

Now, the major problem here is that Camavinga doesn't want to leave Real Madrid. We imagine that's going to change quickly, however, as Los Blancos have, per Fabrizio Romano, made contact with Manchester City about a move for Rodri.

Signing a new holding midfielder will pile more pressure on Camavinga, who will surely take the message that his midfield days are numbered at Real Madrid. Moving on would thus become near certain, surely, and Liverpool can swoop in.

The Reds will not find a better option for anything like that money. Camavinga is still only 23 and boasts proven quality - he just needs the right environment. Liverpool can give him that, with a regular spot in their midfield.

It's a spot they simply have to fill with a value-for-money signing and they will not find a better one.
