Liverpool get priority access for €50m goal machine

These have been testing times for Liverpool’s forwards.

Alexander Isak - signed for £125m from Newcastle last summer - has had a season to forget. The Swede has scored only four goals - spending long spells on the sidelines with various injuries including a broken leg.

Hugo Ekitike came on board from Eintracht Frankfurt for £69m and initially hit the ground running. The French striker has scored 17 goals in his debut season - but looks set to miss out on a year of action owing to a ruptured achilles.

Relying on Isak as the only senior, fit No9 for next season looks like a shaky decision given his recent injury record.

Don’t be surprised therefore if sporting director Richard Hughes opts to sign a new forward in the upcoming transfer window. With so much money going on strikers last summer we probably shouldn’t expect to see another nine-figure transfer.

Serhou Guirassy is an intriguing option

An intriguing cut-price option has emerged in the shape of Serhou Guirassy - who Liverpool can sign for only €50m.

The Borussia Dortmund frontman, 30, is available to a select band of seven European clubs according to a new report in Fussballdaten for a rock-bottom fee.

“The club, bolstered by his contract running until 2028, does not see a sale as a priority,” the report reads.

“However, the unwritten rule of football applies here as well: Dortmund would not reject offers of €50 million or more.

“A special clause complicates the situation further – a €50 million release clause that only applies to Europe's "Big Seven": Real Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United.”

Liverpool have got €50m option on Guirassy

The Guinea forward has plundered 16 Bundesliga goals for the Yellow and Blacks this season - once again emphasising his top-class credentials.

He was looked at last summer as a potential Isak alternative - and of the teams named it looks like Liverpool have got the most pressing need to sign him.

Given the injury outlook for Ekitike - and lack of adequate cover - a better forward for the price will be hard to come by in the upcoming window.
