Liverpool and Arsenal went head to head for a fair few transfers during the summer window.

Most of the Premier League's big six clubs all needed players in the same positions and, in the end, certain players who felt nailed on to join one club ended up joining another.

Probably the biggest name of the lot to choose between Arsenal and Liverpool was Bradley Barcola.

The Frenchman was looking for a way out of Paris Saint-Germain before the World Cup had even ended and, even though it took until the end of the transfer window, he finally got his move.

Indeed, the Gunners did end up with Christos Tzolis joining them but, when comparing the two, it's clear that Liverpool got the better end of the stick.

And, even though the transfer window is now shut, that doesn't mean that the clubs are going to stop getting linked with new players.

Liverpool and Arsenal both want to sign Marc Pubill from Atletico Madrid

Arsenal and Liverpool's defensive lines needed some work doing to them this summer.

Although Mikel Arteta managed to craft one of the strongest defence's in the world last term, there's always room for improvement which is why Ezri Konsa and Jarell Quansah were both linked with a move.

In the end, Konsa was the player that Arsenal chose to sign, much to Liverpool's delight.

And, even though the Reds added Ronald Araujo and Jeremy Jacquet to their ranks, there's definitely still room for improvement there so this latest news to emerge from Anfield is very believable.

"According to information from fussball-news.de, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are among the interested parties. While no concrete negotiations are currently underway, the English clubs are keeping a close eye on Pubill," they wrote.

"Arsenal went even further last summer, making concrete inquiries about a potential transfer. However, Atlético made it unequivocally clear that they did not want to let Pubill go and rejected the approach.

"That settled the matter for the time being. However, the English interest has by no means been eliminated."

Marc Pubill would be an unreal signing for Liverpool

One of Liverpool's main problems this summer was their defence.

On paper, they looked fairly strong but when injuries occurred, they were left in a bit of a tricky situation.

Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones were all used at right-back throughout the campaign and, although most of them performed fairly well, you could tell that none of them were best pleased to be used there.

The report from FusballNews also shares that Atletico only want between €55 million - €60 million for his exit and, with the Reds set to lose Virgil van Dijk at the end of the current season, a new centre-back will certainly be needed.

Of course, these are all just rumours for now but, in reality, there isn't really a better option for Liverpool to explore than Pubill.

Here's hoping these links turn into an actual move, as, with a 71 per cent aerial duel win rate, he'd be an absolute juggernaut in the air for Liverpool.
