History is repeating itself, the next Mo Salah is here

The next Mo Salah has arrived on the scene and he should be Liverpool's.

It's still so bizarre what happened to the Egyptian star in his final season at the club. Arne Slot seemed to shun him, and rob him of a final farewell that would have been befitting of his legacy.

Don't get us wrong. Nothing will tarnish Mo Salah's reputation at Anfield. However, we would have loved to have seen him bow out of the club on a high.

Salah would have loved the same of course. However, in life you naturally don't always get what you want. Things happen beyond your control, and Salah ended up in a situation where he wasn't valued nor wanted.

He made that clear in a post-match interview last season. Shortly after, Liverpool agreed to rip up his contract which would have expired in 2027 and allowed him to leave on a free transfer this summer.

It was such a strange choice to make. It reeked of Liverpool being desperate to offload him which is a bad look.

Salah has now gone onto join Trabzonspor in Turkish, which is a bit of a left-field move but ultimately this is the last big transfer of his career and he has to think about the financial aspects not just the benefits of playing for a top side.

At Trabzonspor, Salah can write his own legacy just as Cristiano Ronaldo has done at Al Nassr and Lionel Messi has done at Inter Miami.

From a Liverpool perspective, replacing Salah has been chaotic this summer which makes it all the more strange that they had agreed to get rid of him before even securing an heir to his throne.

The Yan Diomande debacle, with the Ivorian opting to join Paris Saint Germain and later moving to Real Madrid dominated most of Liverpool's transfer plans.

Diomande was the club's no.1 target to replace Salah. Missing out on him to Real Madrid of all teams hurts all the more.

Now Liverpool are left scrambling in the market, trying to find a suitable alternative. Bradley Barcola is clear a key target but he is not the only one.

Ibrahim Mbaye has emerged as an option on the right-wing and he could be an excellent choice with his game very well suited to Andoni Iraola's system.

Long-term though it remains to be seen what Liverpool's ultimate plan is to replace Salah. However, somewhere in Switzerland history is repeating itself and a new Salah esque figure is emerging.

It was at FC Basel where Salah made his name in Europe. He became a superstar in his years in Switzerland and even caught the attention of Liverpool at the time with his performances in the Champions League.

Ultimately, Jose Mourinho lured him to Stamford Bridge and he ended up playing for Chelsea but ultimately he found his way back to Liverpool and the rest is history.

Now, there's another young winger at Basel repeating Salah's exploits.

Asane Sow is currently averaging a goal or assist every 56 minutes since signing for Basel in the summer. He has four goal contributions in his first three matches for the Swiss giants, and he is quickly starting to catch the attention of Europe's top clubs.

The 20-year-old winger who is of Senegalese descent has been playing in Italy over the course of the last few years. He's spent his time like Salah being an underdog playing in Serie C last season where he really caught the eye.

Capable of playing on the left and the right-wing, Sow's direct style of play combined with his ability to drift into the half spaces but also hold width makes him a really perfect player under Iraola's system.

Liverpool missed out on Salah while he was at Basel, they can't now miss out on Sow. They should do everything to bring him to Anfield. He's made for Iraola's Reds.
