Arne Slot and 'sensational' Liverpool star face massive problem after what's happened

There's no hiding from the fact that Liverpool spent an obscene amount of money on new players in the summer.

A lot of their investment was focused on improving their attack with Florian Wirtz being the first big-money signing that Richard Hughes got over the line.

It's certainly taken more time than expected for the German to come into his own but, at least he's now making some positive contributions to the team.

Hugo Ekitike is another example of new signings performing well with the Frenchman arguably one of Liverpool's best signings of the season.

However, there are some who have failed to live up to expectations and unless things turn around, they could face some massive problems getting back into Arne Slot's starting XI.

Alexander Isak may end up being benched by Hugo Ekitike at Liverpool

Alexander Isak's transfer was one of the most talked-about sagas of the summer window.

The Sweden international had been linked with a Liverpool move since June and, even though it took until the dying embers of the window, the deal finally got over the line.

Fans were ecstatic and, to be honest, it felt like the Anfield outfit would be almost unstoppable.

However, before he was side-lined due to injury, his performances had been rather disappointing.

And, now that Ekitike is one of Slot's most important players, it's hard to see how Isak could wriggle his way back into the team.

This may seem incredibly stupid, especially since the Reds spent £125 million on him, but, with the relationship that's forming between Ekitike and Wirtz at the moment, dropping him upon Isak's return from injury makes no sense at the moment.

At the moment, Liverpool seem to have a bare bones squad due to the sheer number of injuries they've suffered this season.

In fact, they've got so many players side-lined at the moment that fans are quite literally demanding their club to sign some new players before the Anfield outfit get into even more of a crisis.

Slot's defenders are his main problems at the moment with players such as Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley likely to be out until the end of the season.

However, the fact that players such as Isak and now Joe Gomez are also out means that the Dutchman is going to have to make some seriously tough decisions in the near future.

Especially since the former of the two has been described as a "sensational" player in the past.

The amount of quality that Liverpool have among their ranks is unreal, but, if they don't figure out who plays best in which position, some massive problems will start to arise.

Of course, this is all just theory at the moment but, with Mohamed Salah's outburst about playing time still fresh in the memory of fans, it's clear that things aren't likely to be as smooth sailing as Liverpool will want them to be.
