Andoni Iraola has chosen what to do with Curtis Jones
Curtis Jones has been one of the most-linked Liverpool players with an exit this summer.
The Englishman was hardly played in his natural position by Arne Slot during the 2025-26 campaign despite his form being among the best in Liverpool's team.
When called upon, he was often one of the Reds' most active players and, apart from Dominik Szoboszlai, none of their other midfielders delivered impressive performances.
This is why most of Liverpool's recent transfer links have been with midfielders and why the centre of the park is one of the main areas that they need to upgrade.
But, in order to do this, they need to generate some funds but, now that Iraola is in charge, he's giving everyone a clean slate and a chance to impress him.
However, it seems like the Spaniard has already made a decision about Jones.
Andoni Iraola wants to sell Curtis Jones to Inter Milan
As mentioned, even though Jones was one of the Reds' best midfielders when called upon, Slot clearly didn't see things that way.
The Dutchman used him as a right-back when his usual options ended up injured and, even though he did fairly well, it's clear that his defensive skills weren't up to scratch.
This led to many fans questioning why he wasn't used in the middle of the park, especially since Alexis Mac Allister forgot how to run and Ryan Gravenberch was weak on and off the ball.
The fact that his sale was even being considered baffled fans but, as per a fresh update from La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Liverpool's stance on his future still hasn't changed with Iraola now not even wanting him at the club.
"A new manager meant a new boost for Curtis at home. However, the arrival of Iraola did not pave the way for a U-turn," they wrote.
"And as he settled into his new position, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio confirmed the Nerazzurri's continued interest in the Englishman: 'There was interest in this boy in January and there is still interest now. He's a player we're following, we're not hiding it. We tried to close a deal in January, but we'll try again this summer.'
Even more so, considering Curtis isn't even in Iraola's plans. The Spaniard would like to bring his protégé Alex Scott to Liverpool.
"A 22-year-old English center-back, Scott is a carbon copy of Jones, who would once again push Curtis down the pecking order. He's once again 'failed' at home and increasingly eager for a change of scenery. Destination: Inter."
Liverpool could save themselves £60 million by keeping Curtis Jones
The fact that Iraola has seemingly already decided what he wants to do with Jones feels a tad strange.
The Spaniard has only just been appointed as Liverpool's manager and, with the system that he plays, it feels like the Englishman would be a perfect candidate for his midfield.
He's a hard-worker, presses whenever possible and always tries to move the ball forward if given the chance.
His movement on the ball is also fairly impressive with the 25-year-old often managing to get himself out of tight situations.
As mentioned, most of Liverpool's transfer targets have been midfielders with one of them being Alex Scott.
The centre-midfielder is said to be worth around £60 million and, even though he is a tad younger than Jones, he feels like a carbon copy of the Liverpool academy graduate.
But, the only difference is that they'd have to spend an extortionate amount of money even though they already have a more than capable player in Jones.
The 2026-27 summer transfer window is bound to be full of surprises an, if Jones is sold, it could end up being a huge mistake on Liverpool's behalf.
