The next Fabinho is here and he can save Liverpool

Liverpool need a Fabinho, and the new one has arrived at last.

It's been a hopeless search for the Reds to find the Brazilian's replacement since he departed the club.

Liverpool have been trying to replace Fabinho for over three years now. It all started with the Reds missing out on Aurelien Tchouameni.

Then there was the great Moises Caicedo fiasco. We all know how that ended with Chelsea not only signing Caicedo but also bringing in Romeo Lavia, who was identified by Liverpool as the alternative option to the Ecuadorean.

Liverpool opted to sign Wataru Endo, but he was brought in as more of a back-up.

The next summer Martin Zubimendi was all the Reds could think about, but he wanted to stay at Real Sociedad.

Why Liverpool need a holding midfielder to make things work

It's becoming very apparent that the Reds are in a dire need of a Fabinho esque midfielder.

Liverpool lack a midfield profile whose instincts is defence first, and who is capable of dropping back and involving himself in the build-up.

Ryan Gravenberch has been used as a holding midfielder. But he is not great at distributing the ball, and his instincts are to carry the ball out of danger first.

But that doesn't work when Dominik Szoboszlai is playing alongside him, who very much wants to do the same.

Liverpool need someone like Fabinho, who will drop deep and look to play out from the back. That's why Trey Nyoni has been so good when he has come on the pitch. It's also why Lamine Camara has been targeted.

There's another name to keep an eye on though.

Meet Liverpool's next Fabinho - Omar Marong

There's a new player on the scene who the Reds should be looking at because he has the potential to save them at last from their dilemma.

Omar Marong has caught the eye as the captain of Gambia's U17 national team at the U17 WAFU A tournament where his side beat Senegal in the final to claim the trophy.

Marong, a tall and athletic player with long legs and brilliant composure on the ball, showed so many traits that were similar to Fabinho.

The way he reads the game, how he positions himself and how involved he is in the build-up - he is a quintessential Fabinho archetype.

Liverpool are looking at the African market. They signed Mor Talla Ndiaye, and have recently had Sheriff Bah and Musa Jatta on trial from Gambia.

Marong should also be on the club's radar. He is the next Fabinho, and he is perfect.
