Richard Hughes to table bid for ‘excellent’ centre-back after Jeremy Jacquet
Liverpool's fans have been demanding their club to try and sign some new talent to help bolster their ranks.
Most of the fanbase expected at least one player to be brought through the Anfield doors during the winter transfer window but in the end, the Reds left it too late to make any meaningful bids.
Indeed, they did try and prise Lutsharel Geertruida away from Sunderland but, since they left their dealings until the dying embers, there was no way that a transfer was going to get agreed upon in time.
And, since Arne Slot and Richard Hughes didn't make any other additions, their focus seems to have turned towards the summer transfer window with the club already looking at tabling a bid or two.
Liverpool set to table £26m+ bid for Charlie Cresswell
Liverpool have long been linked with several defensive targets over the last year or so.
Players such as Dayot Upamecano and Nico Schlotterbeck are the ones who have seemed closest to a move but with the summer transfer window edging closer, their focus may need to turn towards other targets and as per a report from Sports Boom, that's exactly what seems to be happening.
The report starts out by saying that former Leeds United ace Charlie Cresswell has 'emerged as a summer transfer target' for the Anfield outfit.
However, they're not the only ones interested in his transfer with a whole 'host' of other clubs vying for his transfer.
Chelsea, Tottenham, Brighton and West Ham are some of the clubs interested in acquiring his services.
However, the report rounds things up by saying that Liverpool 'will table a bid in the excess of €30 million (£26.1 million) which should be enough for Tolouse to consider parting ways with the 22-year-old.
Charlie Cresswell would be an outstanding signing for Liverpool
Although Cresswell's time in England hasn't contained any Premier League football just yet, the fact that he was described as an "excellent" player at Millwall proves how good he was before he chose to leave and join Tolouse.
The Englishman is one of the first names on Tolouse's team sheet with several clubs from around the world interested in signing him.
He's been in fairly decent form over the last couple of years but the last six months or so have proven how good he actually is.
And, the fact that he's only 22 years old is a massive selling point as it means that he can only become better.
Virgil van Dijk is set to stay at Liverpool for at least another year which means that he could help mentor Cresswell to become a first-team player at Anfield.
Jeremy Jacquet is already on his way in the summer but, if Liverpool's injury record from the 2025-26 season has proven anything, it's that you can never have too much cover.
A move for the Englishman isn't set in stone just yet but, with how good he is and how minimal his transfer fee would be, it feels like a no brainer for Liverpool, especially since Ibrahima Konate's future still isn't guaranteed.
