Richard Hughes to complete Liverpool's most important deal yet
Liverpool's 2025-26 season is one that they'll want to quickly forget about.
They finished in fifth place and didn't really make a good name for themselves in the Champions League.
This lack of form resulted in fans demanding that changes were made with Arne Slot being the first person dropped by Fenway Sports Group.
Shortly after that, Andoni Iraola was appointed as the Reds' new boss with talk of transfers often emerging from Anfield.
But, due to the World Cup, transfers aren't likely to be confirmed before the middle of July but, that doesn't mean that deals can't still be made.
Richard Hughes set to open talks with Rio Ngumoha over a new contract
Even though most of Liverpool's team have performed fairly poorly this season, Rio Ngumoha was one of the only bright sparks.
The Englishman offered the club something completely different to what they had among their ranks already with his electric pace and ability to take on anyone among his best assets.
The fact that he's only 17 years old is also a bit crazy as, when he was called upon, he performed as if he was a seasoned professional.
Obviously, performing at this level will draw eyes towards any player and that's exactly what happened with Ngumoha.
Bayern reportedly made contact with the youngster a few weeks ago but, once Slot was sacked, talks instantly stopped.
And, even though a move never worked out, that hasn't stopped Liverpool from taking the next steps to secure Ngumoha's future with the club.
"Liverpool are planning to urgently agree a new contract with Rio Ngumoha as soon as he turns 18 amid huge Bayern Munich interest,” the report from Football Insider reads.
"Liverpool will offer Ngumoha a new contract following his 18th birthday later this year.
"His current deal runs until 2028, but they are keen to ward off interest from Bayern and other top clubs by agreeing fresh terms."
Why Rio Ngumoha's new deal could be Liverpool's best of the transfer window
Ngumoha is clearly the future of Liverpool's attack.
He may not have had as much of a starring role as he'd have wanted with Slot in charge last season but, next term, he could end up as a regular starter.
Several attackers have obviously been linked with a Liverpool move but, if the Reds can lock Ngumoha down for the next few years, they'll not need to do anything with their left-wing.
Ngumoha is one of England's brightest prospects and his 31 games across all competitions for Liverpool prove that.
This may seem like he featured a lot but, most of his appearances have come off the bench with his total playing time amounting up to 1065 minutes.
During his time on the pitch, he scored three goals and assisted one which, for a 17-year-old in the Premier League, is rather impressive.
Ngumoha could easily be a £100 million player in the future which is why keeping him at Anfield could be the Reds' best move of the summer.
