Richard Hughes making big Liverpool error after Fabrizio Romano update
Liverpool may not have sold or signed anyone in the winter transfer window for this season, but that might not be the biggest mistake of the winter.
The Reds were one of the world's best teams last season with the club managing to easily run away with the Premier League title.
Of course, there were a couple of slip-ups towards the end of the campaign but, with how hard the Anfield outfit were celebrating, that was to be expected.
They brought in many new faces during the summer with most people believing that these additions would take the club to a whole new level.
Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case and even though we're over halfway into the 2025-26 season, fans demanded that new talent is brought in.
Those demands weren't met, unfortunately. But that might not even be the biggest mistake.
Richard Hughes hasn't extended Curtis Jones' contract at Liverpool yet
Curtis Jones is one of the only scousers left in Liverpool's first-team squad.
His childhood friend Trent Alexander-Arnold chose to exit Anfield in the summer and, even though Arne Slot is already struggling with the depth among his ranks, that hasn't stopped Richard Hughes from entering conversations with Inter Milan about Jones' future.
The midfielder may not be the first name on the Dutchman's team sheet but, when he's called upon, he often performs and makes his presence more than known.
Most fans would be outraged if Jones was sold any time soon, but, as per an update from Fabrizio Romano, it's slowly becoming a real possibility.
Speaking via his YouTube channel, the transfer guru shared his knowledge on Jones' current situation.
"Inter had an agreement almost ready with Curtis Jones on the contract and with his agency. He was keen on a move," he said.
"Liverpool are not approving the exit of the player unless he accepts a new contract in the next few hours, but it is something that, at the moment, is not happening.
"My feeling is that if it is not this window, in the summer something could happen around him because his contract situation must be sorted, otherwise he could really leave Liverpool in 2026."
Arne Slot must do everything he can to stop Curtis Jones from leaving Liverpool
One of the main selling points about Liverpool's academy over the last few years is that their best talents often get a chance in the first-team squad.
And, although this is true for the likes of Conor Bradley, Jones and even Rio Ngumoha, the fact that Liverpool are considering moving Jones on doesn't send a very good message.
The Englishman has previously admitted that one of his main goals is to captain Liverpool one day which shows his dedication to his boyhood club.
Granted, there have been moments in the midfielder's career when he's looked out of his depth or has caused fans frustration but the passion he has for Liverpool is incredibly hard to find elsewhere.
Jones is a perfect player for Slot's system and, if the Reds did sell him, they'd have to sign a replacement who'd likely cost almost double than they'd get for the Englishman, especially with his contract expiring at the end of next season.
It's unclear what the future holds for Liverpool but, if Jones does end up being sold, it would be a massive mistake on Hughes' behalf.
