Richard Hughes cannot ignore this performance, he must bring 'legend' home

Richard Hughes is probably going to leave his post at Liverpool by the end of the summer transfer window.

However, while he's still the Reds' sporting director, he's the one who will handle all of Liverpool's bids and negotiations.

Of course, Michael Edwards and Andoni Iraola will also have a say in the recruitment but, the vast majority of it will come from Hughes.

And, even though he's exiting, he still needs to have the Anfield outfit's best interests at heart and, at the moment, it feels like he's not making the most of the summer transfer window.

Indeed, he did bring Victor Munoz in but, there's one player who he could bring back that would put a huge smile on almost every Liverpool fans' face.

Mohamed Salah needs to be brought back to Liverpool after his performance vs Argentina

Mohamed Salah literally only just ripped up his Liverpool contract at the end of June.

The attacker wanted to seek pastures new after Arne Slot failed to use him in the way that he was meant to.

The Dutchman also left Salah on the bench multiple times during the season which, for a player of his quality, is just something that shouldn't have happened.

Indeed, he wasn't performing to the standards he's set in the past but, that still doesn't mean he should have been as isolated as he was.

And, after his performance against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday, it feels like Hughes needs to do everything he can to bring the Egyptian King back to Anfield.

Now that Iraola is at the helm, it doesn't feel like he'd take too much convincing as he'd easily be able to fit into his plans and would solve Liverpool's main issue of needing a new right-winger.

And, the fact that Pep Guardiola has dubbed the Egyptian King an 'absolute legend' proves how good he really is.

Mohamed Salah's game against Argentina in numbers

As mentioned, one of the main problems Liverpool are going to face this summer is the fact that they need a new right-winger.

Salah was their go-to option there and, even though Federico Chiesa and Jeremie Frimpong can both be used there, neither of them scream Premier League winning players.

So, the fact that Salah's future is still undecided means that there could still be a slim chance that Liverpool could convince him to re-join them.

Even though the attacker didn't have any shots on goal during the round of 16 clash between Egypt and Argentina, his contribution to the team in other areas of the pitch are what made him stand out.

As per Sofascore, in the 90 minutes that Salah played, he maintained a pass accuracy of 86 per cent and he also progressed the ball 106.4 metres forward during the clash.

Defensively, the attacker was also solid as he won 100 per cent of his aerial duels and recovered the ball four times.

Admittedly, his ground duel percentage could have been better as he only won 40 per cent of them but, since he was used as a striker, the fact that his defensive contributions aren't perfect is acceptable.

These statistics coupled with the inspiration he gives his team are all things that Liverpool could use to their advantage if he chose to return.

Here's hoping that something miraculous can be worked out and that Salah can be brought back home.
