£100m offer could seal deal for England gem
Liverpool could be about to face down Real Madrid and Manchester City in a transfer battle for one of England’s brightest midfield talents.
The Reds declined to add a senior option to their midfield over the summer transfer window - preferring to utilise Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Wataru Endo and Stefan Bajcetic for the season ahead.

Tyler Morton moved on a permanent deal to Lyon while James McConnell secured a loan move to Ajax. There has been speculation that the Reds could add to the midfield ranks - with one injury or suspension potentially exposing a gap in the squad.

If there is a temptation to acquire a midfielder it looks like happening in another transfer window but there is no doubt that certain players are on the radar.
Madrid, City and Liverpool interested in Wharton
One such player is Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.
The Eagles’ prompter has been at Selhurst Park since early 2024 - excelling in his brief tenure at the club thus far. He has been drafted into the England senior reckoning - being called up to the Euro 2024 squad although he played no part in the tournament.
The 21-year-old is under contract with Oliver Glasner’s side until 2029 and it would take a HUGE bid to move him out of the club.
Madrid will bid £100m for Wharton
According to a new report in Fichajes - which discusses Real Madrid’s interest in Wharton - a bid of around €115m (£100m) is being prepared at the Bernabeu.
Xabi Alonso is determined to overhaul his midfield - reportedly seeing the former Blackburn schemer as the man to command his new lineup.
However the report also warns of Liverpool and Manchester City’s interest.
“Both Liverpool and Manchester City are closely monitoring the player,” the report reads.
It’s not the first time the Reds have been linked with Wharton but it is clear they will face a mighty transfer fight when the time comes to compete for his signature.
