Liverpool get answer in deal for £52.5m centre-back
Liverpool opted to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer.
The England squad member moved for a fee of over £30m - guaranteeing a healthy return on a homegrown academy player.
Quansah’s sale opened up a space in the Liverpool squad - with Arne Slot having only THREE senior options at his disposal at centre-back.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate would be described as locks - although Konate’s contract is up in 2026 and a renewal doesn’t appear close right now.
Liverpool linked with Guehi
The other central defender is Joe Gomez but the 28-year-old has flown home from the club’s preseason tour with an achilles injury. It means Slot is currently going into the season in somewhat of a precarious position.
If either Van Dijk or Konate are injured, it means Ryan Gravenberch or Wataru Endo are in line to play at centre-back.

That’s why a move for a defender would make sense. Liverpool have been linked with several players in the position - including Jorrel Hato, Joel Ordonez and above all Marc Guehi.
Despite those transfer reports, the Reds haven’t yet signed a new player at centre-back.
Liverpool get Hincapie answer from Leverkusen
Enquiries are underway however for prospective defensive targets. According to a new report in TBR Football, the Reds have asked the question about Piero Hincapie - a 23-year-old left-sided defender at Bayer Leverkusen.
Sporting director Richard Hughes has already done business with B04 for Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz this summer but according to the report they will not be successful a third time.
“Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea have all been told by Bayer Leverkusen that they are not willing to listen to offers for Piero Hincapie this summer,” the report reads.
“Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea are all believed to have made their move for the defender, but look set for disappointment in their pursuit.”
Hincapie's £52.5m release clause
Hincapie has long been linked with the Reds and is capable of playing left-back as well as centre-back. His versatility is sure to appeal to Arne Slot and given he is left-footed he could end up being a long-term replacement for Van Dijk.
Leverkusen are very well protected from a contract perspective with Hincapie tied down until 2029.

It has been reported that he’s got a transfer release clause of £52.5m in his contract - a sum which according to the report that Atletico Madrid were not willing to pay.
We could see Liverpool come back again for Hincapie but right now the chase for a new centre-back option goes on.
