Liverpool insider confirms which transfer deal is “increasingly important”

We are counting down to the closure of the summer transfer window. Liverpool have already signed several players - to the tune of around £290m - but more could be added before the September 1 deadline.

Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Giovanni Leoni have all been added to strengthen Arne Slot’s squad.

But sporting director Richard Hughes won’t stop there. Plans are afoot to add Alexander Isak - if Newcastle can be persuaded to sell - and a central defender in the shape of Marc Guehi.

Liverpool look a man light in attack owing to so many departures including Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

Isak and Guehi linked

A centre-forward in the form of Isak - for a British record fee of over £120m - would be an ideal solution for Slot and Hughes as they plot retaining the Premier League title.

At the back Liverpool could do with bulking out the central defensive department. The Reds have got Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez at their disposal as senior options with 18-year-old Leoni also set for some first-team football.

But owing to the contract situation regarding Konate and Gomez’s frequent injuries it’s been speculated that a deal for Guehi could be a goer.

Liverpool's frailties in defence exposed

And the manner in which Liverpool conceded their two goals in the 3-2 win over Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Monday night had one insider suggesting that a deal for the England man will move closer in the coming days.

The goals - scored by Bruno Guimaraes and William Osula - had one thing in common. Namely a failure by Milos Kerkez and Konate respectively to win their defensive aerial battles.

That gave the Geordies the opportunities they need to level the score - although thankfully Rio Ngumoha added a late winner.

Guehi deal "increasingly important" claims Paul Joyce

“For all the focus on Isak’s future, a deal for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi is increasingly important given the manner of the concessions with two defenders not attacking high balls,” a report from Paul Joyce in the Times reads.

Konate has started the season poorly and it would be no harm to have a consistent challenger for his place.

This has now been reported by a verified source in Joyce - suggesting that Hughes will step up his efforts in the coming days.

We certainly need to Get Palaces Marc Guehi in asap as we have all seen Konate just isn't performing and is that Because he wants to leave the club ? just another player who feels the grass is greener at Real Madrid and we have seen TAA struggling and being suggested he is now the 2nd Choice at Real Madrid so to be able to bring in a Premiership Ready Center Back is massive and that deal needs to be made Now !! Add to that hopefully the Isak deal goes through and finally do we need to bring in a replacement after Diaz After his departure with Rodrygo being mentioned as the first choice but with that comes as a high cost €€ Or do you look at that cheaper option of Lyons Fofana who many Top clubs have been looking at closely but available at around half the price than Rodrygo!! What a Transfer period we would have had if we bring in those lads to those we have already brought in as once you look at the Net Spend Wow Great Business but it needs completing before we can be too Happy !!
