Liverpool are entering a tricky period regarding their striker options.

Although Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike were acquired last summer - for a combined total of around £200m - Arne Slot has been left short up top.

Isak has missed the majority of the season first with a groin injury and then a broken leg - and is only now working his way back into contention as a starter.

Ekitike meanwhile hit the ground running in a red shirt - scoring 17 times across his debut campaign - but could now be out of action for up to a year.

The France international ruptured his achilles and given Isak’s frequent injury issues it would be a risk to go into the new season with the Swede as the only senior striking option.

Liverpool WILL sign a striker

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes will be once again active in the market for a new No9 but will NOT break the bank to sign one.

With reinforcements required in defence, midfield and out wide in attack, Liverpool won’t have a whole lot of money available for a new frontman.

According to a report in Football Insider a new forward IS coming to the Premier League champions this summer but right now it is shaping up to be a bargain option.

“Liverpool will explore the market for a new striker in the summer transfer window but will hold back from spending big,” the report reads.

“The Merseyside giants are eyeing a possible loan move or bargain transfer, using the bulk of their summer kitty for other squad acquisitions.”

Could we see a high-profile free transfer?

In this context the links with Randal Kolo Muani make sense as the Frenchman is set to be made available by Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

And Liverpool could also move on a free transfer with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Robert Lewandowski coming available this summer.

Liverpool are not blessed with strikers in the youth ranks either - with Will Wright probably the closest to contending for a call-up to the first team.

Keyrol Figueroa looks set to leave the club while Jayden Danns has experienced a severely injury-hit career since emering as a senior option under Jurgen Klopp.
