Napoli make TWO promises to Liverpool forward
It looks as though Liverpool are making plans to UPGRADE the centre-forward position. The Reds won the 2024/25 Premier League title but had to do so without a reliable No9.
Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota were supposed to share striking duties but both ended up behind Luis Diaz in the goalscoring charts.

Arne Slot often opted to use the Colombian as a defacto centre-forward instead of his two specialists - leading to speculation that a new first-choice striker will be signed.
Sam McGuire: Trent sold his soul and lost his identity
Victor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro are just a few of the names reportedly on the list and Liverpool will have to clear the decks in order to get one in.
Darwin on the way out
Jota, 28, is out of contract in 2027 and has been enduring more difficulty on the injury front. Diaz, meanwhile, is not a natural No9 and could well be sold to Barcelona or Al-Nassr in any case.
Then there’s Liverpool’s record signing Darwin Nunez.
Acquired for a fee that could reach £85m from Benfica back in 2022, it’s not really happened for the Uruguayan at Anfield. He has started only ONE Premier League match in 2025 and has reportedly been told by Arne Slot that he won’t be counted on next season.
The 25-year-old has declined a move to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League - preferring to mix it at the elite level in Europe. We could see Atletico Madrid or AC Milan come into the reckoning for Nunez but there is another intriguing exit route materialising.
Napoli offer CL football to Darwin
Serie A champions Napoli are looking to lessen their dependency on first-choice centre-forward Romelu Lukaku. And they have got Darwin in their sights according to a new report in Football Italia.
Antonio Conte has been convinced to stay on as head coach - with Napoli now keen to strengthen in the off-season. They have already added Kevin De Bruyne and have also made TWO promises to Darwin, according to the report.
“Napoli are still in the hunt and can promise him Champions League football and to continue at the top level in Europe,” the report reads.
Although Al-Hilal could offer Nunez participation at the FIFA Club World Cup, the attraction of playing in the Saudi Pro League would surely soon wear off.

Now Darwin has a chance to perform for one of the biggest teams in Italy in both Serie A and the Champions League. Let’s hope this one comes to a swift resolution and Liverpool can add a sizeable amount to the summer transfer fund.
