There are big changes coming to Liverpool’s backline this summer.

The signing of Jeremy Jacquet is in place for the off-season while Giovanni Leoni should be fit to rejoin the squad following injury.

We could see Joe Gomez moved on - with only one year left on his contract - with Virgil van Dijk due to leave in 2027 too.

Thankfully a deal for Ibrahima Konate to stay at the club beyond 2026 appears close but ideally the Premier League champions get one more centre-back in the door.

Van Dijk will need to be replaced over the course of the next year - meaning an experienced, left-sided centre-back could be coming.

Van de Ven wants to leave Spurs

And who better than Micky van de Ven? The Tottenham defender has emerged as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League - despite his club being embroiled in a relegation battle.

TEAMtalk is now reporting that with contract talks with Spurs at an impasse the Netherlands international has made it clear that he wishes to leave.

Van de Ven’s representatives have been putting the feelers out across Europe about his next move and Liverpool are named among the left-footer’s Premier League suitors.

Micky van de Ven has little intention of signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur, regardless of whether the club avoid relegation, the Dutch defender is already looking towards a move away.

Liverpool in chase for Van de Ven

Van de Ven’s representatives have now made it clear to Tottenham that he would like to leave this summer, alerting a number of top clubs across Europe.

“Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all showing strong interest in the left-sided centre-back, while Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation as they explore options to strengthen with a natural left-footer, having previously tracked Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck,” the report reads.

The 25-year-old is signed up until 2029 but with contract talks on hold the North London side could be forced to face a sale of their top defensive asset.

Van de Ven is well known to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot - who has twice tried to sign him previously. Across managerial spells at AZ and Feyenoord the 47-year-old eyed up deals for his compatriot - whose career took him off in a different direction.

Van de Ven moved to the Bundeliga from Volendam before embarking on his Premier League adventure in 2023.
