Liverpool have had a very hard time replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 27-year-old right-back moved to Real Madrid for £10m at the end of the title-winning 2024/25 Premier League season. Sporting director Richard Hughes spent £29m on Jeremie Frimpong after triggering the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back’s release clause.

And he also offered a new contract to Conor Bradley. But those plans are up in smoke - with Frimpong on his third significant injury absence of the season and Bradley not expected to play again until next season owing to a complex knee injury of his own.

To add to Arne Slot’s woes Joe Gomez has been in and out of the lineup due to injuries and the head coach has been pressed into using Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and even Wataru Endo at right-back.

Liverpool impressed by Michael Kayode

It’s very much a problem position for the defending Premier League champions and one which could well be solved in the summer transfer window.

Because a report in Sports Boom is now claiming that Liverpool are considering a move for Brentford’s breakout star - Michael Kayode.

“Liverpool are considering a move for Brentford's right-back Michael Kayode,” the report reads.

“The 21-year-old's performances have impressed Reds' boss Arne Slot, as Liverpool face an injury crisis in that position.

“Kayode, who has been a revelation at Brentford, is also being monitored by other Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle United.”

Kayode to solve Liverpool right-back issues

The 21-year-old joined the Bees initially on loan from Fiorentina for the second half of the 2024/25 season - completing a permanent move for around £17.5m last summer.

The Italy international is under contract in West London until 2030 - but could be set to move on having caught the eye of Liverpool and others.

Frimpong could end up being utilised as a wide forward - especially if Mohamed Salah leaves in summer.

And as for Bradley he has a long way back from injury and will need to prove all over again he has the robustness to compete for a first-team place.
