PSG deal breaks down: Door opens for forward's Liverpool move

Liverpool have got a gap in their attack.

Mohamed Salah left the club having agreed to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early. But his absence has hit hard - especially since Richard Hughes missed out on a deal for Yan Diomande.

The Ivorian, 19, looks bound for Real Madrid - meaning Liverpool are searching for other targets. Right now their chase appears to have taken them to France for Bradley Barcola.

Liverpool chasing Barcola, PSG want Akliouche

The Paris Saint-Germain winger won’t sign a new deal with the European champions and his current contract extends only to 2028. Therefore PSG are open to a sale on the right terms - with the figures quoted reaching around £145m.

Luis Enrique’s side have got plans to restock their attack. Even before the sale of Barcola is factored in they have already lost Lee Kang-In to Atletico Madrid and Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan.

Plans are afoot to acquire Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco - with Liverpool also in the running to sign the 24-year-old.

Liverpool also chasing deal for Akliouche

Akliouche, a full France international, is a very different target to Barcola - profiling more as a playmaker in the Salah mould than an out-and-out winger.

A door may now be opening ever so slightly for the Merseysiders to sneak in and do a deal for the left-footed talent. Because PSG have been rejected yet again in their attempts to spirit Akliouche away from the Principality.

That’s according to Loic Tanzi in L’Equipe - who nonetheless claims PSG are still confident of adding the gifted attacker before the window closes.

Liverpool tipped to step up Akliouche pursuit

“The capital club has submitted a third offer in recent days, this time of €45 million plus €5 million in bonuses, to convince AS Monaco to release the French international (10 caps),” he writes.

“This offer was once again rejected by the Monaco management, who are also determined not to sell their player for less than their asking price.”

In a separate report on Get French Football it’s claimed that Liverpool may now have a pathway towards signing Akliouche.

“If, for one reason or another, the two clubs fail to reach an agreement regarding Akliouche’s future, Liverpool – who are also interested in the 24-year-old – could well attempt to step up their pursuit.”
