There are big changes happening around the Liverpool squad this summer. Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes are not standing still despite winning the 2024/25 Premier League title.

There are going to be casualties along the way of course as the Reds seek to keep numbers in check and make savings in the budget.

We’ve already seen the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher and Nat Phillips depart on permanent deals with Jarell Quansah also close to finalising an exit.

We could also see Darwin Nunez leave soon - and there are question marks over Federico Chiesa, Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliott and more.

Luca Stephenson enjoys successful loan

Liverpool have got another asset who could be sold this summer in Luca Stephenson but as things stand the club haven’t made a decision on his future.

The 21-year-old midfielder was excellent out on loan last season in the SPFL with Dundee United - appearing 31 times in the Scottish top flight and scoring three goals.

Signed from Sunderland for the academy back in 2018, Stephenson has made his name as a midfielder but is also capable of playing right back.

Luca Stephenson's future in doubt

Ahead of Arne Slot’s first season in charge, he was in and around the first-team picture - appearing in four pre-season friendlies before the 2024/25 season kicked off.

The Daily Record now claims that Dundee United want have Stephenson back - although it’s not clarified whether it’s a permanent deal or another loan they have got in mind.

Dundee United want Luca Stephenson

"The Tangerines are also keen for Luca Stephenson to return from Liverpool but need the English champions to make a call on the midfielder, who impressed on loan last season,” the report reads.

Stephenson’s future is therefore up in the air. He has previously admitted that it was unlikely he would make a breakthrough at Anfield and was prepared to consider a move elsewhere.

With so much uncertainty around the club right now, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him leave on a permanent basis.

Bear in mind the reports that Owen Beck is due to receive a new contract before being sent on loan this summer. That could also be an option for Stephenson.

Right now Dundee United are looking for clarity over Liverpool’s plans for Stephenson and then make their attempts to sign him accordingly.
