Liverpool risk being left a little light in attack ahead of the new season.

Andoni Iraola kicked off his tenure with a 4-2 win over Sunderland in Nashville on the first leg of the USA preseason tour.

The honour of playing up front went to Will Wright - the teenager signed from Salford last summer. Wright is filling in for the likes of Alexander Isak with the £125m man just coming back off his summer break and Hugo Ekitike who is absent with a long-term injury.

Another academy option - Jayden Danns - is also working his way back to fitness. The 2024/25 Premier League winners are unlikely to spend big on a No9 this summer - with recruitment more necessary at centre-back, right-back and in wide attacking areas.

Liverpool consider loan deal for Keyrol Figueroa

One option could be to use Keyrol Figueroa as a first-team option - the 19-year-old Honduran who cannot stop scoring. Figueroa recently made his international debut - capitalising on a sensational goalscoring season for the Reds at under-21 level.

He was linked with the exit back in January when Porto came calling but he ultimately stayed put. An injury affected the latter part of his season but right now he is raring to go in preseason.

Figueroa nets two for U21s

Figueroa scored two goals on Sunday as the U21s beat NK Celje in Slovenia - a hard-fought 4-3 win.

He was available having been left out of the senior squad which travelled to the USA.

Now a report in Deportes TVC is claiming that Liverpool decision-makers are currently weighing up the option of sending Figueroa out on loan or else keeping him at the club.

Keyrol Figueroa could be retained as a first-team option

“The board is evaluating whether to loan him out or keep him at the club,” the report reads.

Figueroa is a natural-born goalscorer and could alleviate the burden should Isak need a rest. It was claimed earlier in the summer that he would be signing a new deal and his presence in the U21 setup would appear to suggest that he has now done so.

We await news on the next steps for Figueroa - in the meantime he will get on with the job he knows how to do best which is scoring goals.
