Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool future is under IMMEDIATE threat.

The Italian - who joined from Juventus in September 2024 - has been linked with a return to his former club. January’s transfer window kicked off with speculation that the Old Lady were seeking to put together a package to entice the winger back to Turin.

Initially sketched out as a loan deal, it was then reported that Liverpool had rejected this formula - owing to a desire to get rid of the 28-year-old on a permanent basis.

Sporting director Richard Hughes was said to be receptive to a bid reaching around £12m overall - split between a loan fee and an eventual transfer next summer.

But Juve instead decided to look elsewhere for reinforcements in attack - landing on Youssef En-Nesyri of Fenerbahce.

Juve striker plans fall apart

However that deal appears to have hit the skids and it looks like the Morocco international will be heading elsewhere this January.

And that development - according to a report in Gazzetta dello Sport - has brought the Serie A giants back to the table for Chiesa.

“The best way to put the Moroccan striker's situation behind him, the protagonist of a reversal that irritated Juventus and infuriated Fenerbahçe, and also to begin the final full week of negotiations: from new contacts for Zirkzee (United) to those for Federico Chiesa (Liverpool).”

Chiesa endured a torrid first season at Anfield from a personal perspective - although he did earn a Premier League winner’s medal.

Juve initiate new contact over Chiesa

Over the summer he worked hard to make himself an option for Arne Slot and has scored two top-flight goals this season.

Currently suffering from an injury - having pulled out of the warmup ahad of the Reds’ Champions League assignment against Marseille - Chiesa needs to get plenty of regular first-team football between now and March.

The forward has got his eye on making Gennaro Gattuso’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification playoff against Northern Ireland.

Liverpool won’t be able to offer him that - and so it could come down to whether or not the Reds can trash out of a deal with their Italian counterparts in the coming days.
