Liverpool transfer news: International attacker confirms he wants to play for Liverpool

An exciting international attacker has confirmed he wants to play for Liverpool in the Premier League next season.

Richard Hughes doesn't have a lot of time left to solve the club's problems in the transfer window. With every day that passes, the club's supporters are becoming more and more agitated.

It felt like an enormous window ahead for Liverpool at the start of the summer. There was just simply so many things to do. So many areas to strengthen, and so many problems to solve.

Andoni Iraola has made it clear in his first press conference for Liverpool and in his second in Chicago that he needs new signings and that there are at least two key positions where Liverpool need to strengthen.

Ever since the Yan Diomande fiasco, where Liverpool were publicly rejected after making it clear he was the club's first choice, the Reds have been quiet.

News coming out of Liverpool has been sparse. Whether that is because Liverpool now want to keep their cards closer to their chests or because they aren't doing anything, no one can know, unless you are in those inner circles at Anfield.

But one thing is clear. Time is not in Liverpool's favour.

Obviously, the main area where Liverpool need to strengthen is in attack.

Liverpool lost their best attacker - Mo Salah this summer. The club's hierarchy ripped up his contract. It was their decision to part ways, and yet Liverpool are yet to replace the Egyptian.

There's a clear need for a winger. Liverpool have added Victor Munoz to their ranks already. However, he alone is not enough. The Reds were lacking in depth last season even before Salah's departure, so Munoz is just an extra addition that was already needed.

On top of this Federico Chiesa is likely to leave the club this summer. He just doesn't really fit into Iraola's style of play.

Meanwhile, Hugo Ekitike is out injured and unlikely to return until 2027.

And who knows what the future holds for Cody Gakpo, who is reportedly open to leaving Liverpool and who Tottenham are interested in.

The facts are that Liverpool simply need to add more depth in attack. And on top of that they need to sign a first choice right-winger, someone who is capable of replacing Salah.

Who that player will be remains to be seen.

In the interim, Liverpool's young attackers who are on the pre-season tour have a golden chance to try and get themselves ahead in the pecking order and maybe convince Iraola there's no need to buy players.

There's a number of really talented young forwards on this pre-season tour, including Josh Sonni-Lambie, Will Wright and Joshua Abe.

But the most experienced is undoubtedly Lewis Koumas.

The Welsh international forward, who scored his first senior international goal for his national team this summer, has enjoyed two solid loan spells in the Championship last season.

He played a key role in helping Hull City earn promotion to the Premier League and is now ready to make his mark for Liverpool's senior side.

The 20-year-old scored on his senior Liverpool debut under Jurgen Klopp and speaking to Liverpool's official website he confirmed that he wants to play for the Reds next season and play in the Premier League.

When asked what he wants to achieve ahead of the new season, Koumas said:

"To play for Liverpool in the Premier League, of course. But if that’s not how it ends up going, I’m always looking to develop and always looking to improve my game. We’ll just see what happens and see where it takes me."

With his ability to play across the front three, and his work ethic off the ball the Welsh international could be an ideal option for Iraola, and he might just achieve his target of playing for the Reds.
