Liverpool transfer news: Great news! €50m star makes his decision as Reds find their next signing
Liverpool have finally found their winger as a €50m star makes his decision.
Richard Hughes has one of the biggest transfer windows of his career ahead of him because Liverpool need to rediscover the balance that made them so dominant under Jurgen Klopp.
When Klopp's side were at their peak, everything just clicked. They had the physicality to overpower teams, the intensity to press for 90 minutes, the technical quality to control games and, perhaps most importantly, the pace to punish opponents whenever they left space in behind.
That combination was what made Liverpool so difficult to play against. Every player complemented the next, and the system brought the best out of everyone on the pitch.
Right now, though, the squad doesn't quite have that same feel.
There's still loads of quality and plenty of players willing to work hard, but the balance isn't quite there. Liverpool are well stocked in some areas, while other key attributes have vanished.
The biggest one is pace.
At their best, Liverpool had players who terrified defenders every time they got the ball. Sadio Mane was the obvious example, constantly stretching back lines and creating space for those around him. Even Luis Diaz, when he was at his sharpest, had that burst of acceleration that could completely change the momentum of a game.
That's something Liverpool haven't consistently had over the last couple of seasons.
Against teams that defend deep or play with a high line, having someone who can simply run beyond defenders changes the entire dynamic of an attack.
It makes Hughes' priority this summer fairly obvious. Liverpool need to inject more speed, directness and unpredictability into the frontline.
Bringing in attackers who can beat defenders one-on-one, threaten in behind and create chaos in transition would go a long way towards restoring the balance that made Klopp's Liverpool one of the best teams in Europe.
Liverpool's first choice for this role was Yan Diomande but he's decided to join Paris Saint Germain.
One can hardly blame him. From Diomande's perspective, the decision is an understandable one.
Paris Saint-Germain have established themselves as one of Europe's dominant forces, winning back-to-back Champions League titles while playing some of the continent's most dynamic attacking football under Luis Enrique. For a young forward looking to develop at the highest level, there are few more attractive destinations.
For Liverpool, however, the consequences are significant. It leaves them scrambling and scratching their heads.
With market prices inflated there aren't many right-wingers on the market available for the right price.
But there is one, who has made a significant decision and who in the process has helped Liverpool find their next winger.
We've said above that Liverpool need pace and directness. There aren't many players capable of doing this on a regular and consistent basis.
However, there are a few limited talents who are very good and who can change the game for Liverpool and who also suit Andoni Iraola's intense style of play.
Among those who Anfield Watch understands is on Liverpool's radar is Ibrahim Mbaye. The 18-year-old Paris Saint Germain winger is already a regular for Senegal's senior national team and he has caught the eye in France as well with the French giants.
However, he is now looking to leave the club with Maghnes Akliouche and Diomande set to join PSG.
Le10Sport report in France that Mbaye has made his decision about where he wants to go as well. According to the report he has decided he wants to join the Premier League.
The report claims Manchester City and Aston Villa are also interested in the youngster who will be available for €40 and €50 million, which is an absolute bargain.
Liverpool will have to act fast but there is a clear pathway for Mbaye at Anfield and a move to the Reds just makes so much sense.
