Darwin Nunez future is clearer after failed striker bid

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been tipped for a departure this summer. Under contract until 2028, it looks like the Uruguay international’s race at Anfield is run.

The 26-year-old failed to win over Arne Slot during the Dutchman’s first season in charge - scoring only five Premier League goals and dropping out of the starting lineup completely in the second half of the campaign.

It has been speculated that Nunez could therefore be surplus to requirements - with Liverpool intending to sign a new No9 in his place.

Alexander Isak, of course, appears to be first choice in that regard but Liverpool will have to stump up another British record sum to land the £150m-rated Swede.

Liverpool willing to sell Darwin

Nunez’s sale could therefore bring in some very welcome transfer income for sporting director Richard Hughes to follow on from the departure of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich.

The striker is rated at around ÂŁ70m - with the club having fielded bids from Saudi Arabia in January and Al-Hilal are again at the table this summer.

It is believed that Nunez favours a move to a European club but has already seen potential transfers to Atletico Madrid and Napoli disintegrate.

Juventus want Darwin Nunez

But the Liverpool No9 could have his dream come true due to the latest developments around Juventus. Foot Mercato is reporting that a move for Randal Kolo Muani has hit the skids.

Juve want to construct a loan deal with an obligation to purchase - but Paris Saint-Germain are determined to make a quick sale. That opens the door to Premier League suitors like Tottenham for the French international - who impressed on loan with Juve during the second half of last season.

And if they miss out on Kolo Muani, expect the Serie A side to move in for Darwin.

The South American hitman has always been on the Bianconeri’s list as a back-up to first-choice Kolo Muani. If they miss out on their priority target then a money-spinning move for Nunez could well be activated.
