Liverpool have been tipped to shake up their midfield options this summer.

The likes of Manu Kone and Adam Wharton are reportedly on the radar as Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola put plans in place for the season ahead.

Last season Arne Slot got diminishing returns from certain members of the midfield - including Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

Curtis Jones lined up by Inter Milan

The Dutchman ultimately lost his job as Liverpool head coach - and a midfield overhaul has been mooted under the new boss Iraola.

To facilitate new arrivals however there are going to have to be some departures. Mac Allister - under contract until 2028 - could be sold to Real Madrid according to reports in Spain with Jose Mourinho keen on adding the Argentine.

And Curtis Jones is another player under scrutiny following Inter Milan’s attempts to land him on a cut-price deal.

Inter will get closer to Liverpool asking price

Jones, 25, remains under contract at Anfield only until summer 2027 with this transfer window representing a final chance to cash in.

But the Italian champions are frustrating Liverpool by their refusal to meet the asking price of around £35m. Liverpool are quite content to risk the England international’s deal running down if Inter don’t meet that valuation.

And according to a report from transfer journalist Ben Jacobs the Reds may well need to buckle up and prepare for a new effort from the Nerazzurri.

Inter locked in discussions over Jones proposal

Inter are playing the waiting game over Jones - hoping to strike a deal on their own terms as the window ticks to a conclusion. And the Serie A side are now ready to slide another offer across Richard Hughes’ desk.

“Inter are considering a new bid for Curtis Jones despite seeing a €25m approach instantly rejected,” he writes on X.

“Liverpool prepared to keep Jones if their €40m+ valuation isn’t met. Still waiting for new formal talks.

“Inter’s last verbal approach had led Liverpool to conclude a deal wasn’t possible, but the Serie A side are currently discussing a new proposal.”

Inter are not the only team reported to be interested in Jones this summer with Galatasaray and Nottingham Forest also thought to be keen on his signature.

It has also been reported that Jones considers his Liverpool career over - with a five-year deal already lined up for him at San Siro.
