Liverpool want sensational deal for £60m Portugal forward
Big changes are coming to Liverpool’s attack in this summer’s transfer window.
Last summer the No9 position got a significant upgrade - with both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak arriving. And this time around there will be alterations out wide.
On the left Cody Gakpo has been inconsistent and only has the untested Rio Ngumoha as competition.
And of course Mohamed Salah will be leaving after the sporting director Richard Hughes reached an agreement to tear up his £400k contract one year early.
Factor in a departure for Federico Chiesa and you can see why the Premier League champions are seeking reinforcements out wide.
Is Rafa Leao coming to Liverpool?
Yan Diomande and as revealed by Anfield Watch Bradley Barcola are on Reds’ recruiters’ shortlists but now the Daily Mail claims a big-name Portugal forward is also set to feature in the reckoning.
Rafael Leao, 26, could be allowed to leave AC Milan this summer with only two years left on his current contract. The Portuguese wide man has been at San Siro since 2019 - clinching a Serie A title in 2022- but now looks set to move on to pastures new.
Leao hasn’t had the greatest of seasons at club level amid reports of a fallout with manager Max Allegri.
He’s still managed nine goals and three assists in 27 Italian league appearances.
Leao available for only £60m
Crucially he comes with versatility.
Leao can play most naturally as a left-winger but has also featured as a second striker as well as in a front two under Allegri.
Liverpool would have to fight off interest from both Manchester clubs as well as Real Madrid to land Leao - who will be available for £60m.
“AC Milan star Rafael Leao is attracting interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid as they explore a potential summer move for the Portugal international,” the report reads.
“Milan are understood to be open to offers for a number of their top players as they look to balance the books and work within financial guidelines. And Leao could depart for around £60million.”
