Liverpool to make move for £60m defender as 'growing suspicion' shared
Arne Slot's time as Liverpool's manager could be coming to an end but that doesn't mean that the Anfield outfit haven't got several players on their transfer shortlist.
It's clear that the Reds needs to add some serious upgrades to their ranks if they want to get back to being the Premier League's best team next season.
Almost every area of their squad needs a new player or two but, with the futures of some of their first-team squad still unknown, it's hard for the club to choose who they want to sign and decide what their main priorities are.
There's obviously no knowing what will happen to the Anfield outfit this season or in the summer but, as long as they qualify for the Champions League they should be able to attract just about any player.
That is, as long as they have the money to spend, of course.
And, now that the transfer window is edging closer, rumours are starting to appear more frequently with some world class players emerging as potential targets.
Liverpool could target Alphonso Davies in the summer
Andy Robertson is one of Liverpool's highest profile players who's contract is set to run out at the end of the 2025-26 season.
Although the Scotsman has been a dependable full-back during his time with the club, it's clear that Milos Kerkez was brought in to be the first-choice left-back.
And, even though Robertson has often outperformed Kerkez this term, it doesn't feel like Liverpool will keep the Scotsman around due to his age and his weekly wage.
This means that the Anfield outfit will be a left-back down and, even though Kostas Tsimikas will be returning from loan, he's not good enough for Liverpool anymore.
With this in mind, it's not hard to understand why several left-backs have now been linked with a Liverpool move.
And, as per an update from Christian Falk, Alphonso Davies seems to be a new name on the Reds' shortlist.
"It’s a very interesting rumour suggesting Alphonso Davies was offered to Liverpool by intermediaries," he wrote.
"It’s true that there are thoughts within Bayern, as the Canadian has picked up yet another injury, that if a big offer is on the table, perhaps they would sell him.
"Before, it was clear that FC Bayern need this player; he’s one of the best in the team. Now, however, they’re thinking that they could perhaps replace him if there’s a lot of money on the table, because his salary is pretty high.
"His agent held difficult talks with the club when Alphonso was signing. He hasn’t done anything to dispel these rumours.
"He’s quiet on the situation. So, I have a growing suspicion with regard to this subject!"
Alphonso Davies would be a good but risky signing for Liverpool
There's no denying that Davies is an extremely talented left-back.
And, if he wasn't so injury prone, Bayern Munich wouldn't even be talking about moving him on.
However, since the 2018-19 season the Canadian has missed 106 games through injury with 15 of those games coming in the 2025-26 campaign.
So, even though he's only 25 years old, it's unclear whether or not he'll ever be able to get over these injuries and actually have a decent run of games.
And, with the injury record that Liverpool have had this term, it doesn't feel like a good idea for them to try and sign the Canadian.
That is, especially since Bayern put a fee worth around £60 million on his head.
There's obviously no knowing what could happen throughout the rest of the 2025-26 season but, if Liverpool are wanting to upgrade their team and challenge for the Premier League title, they can't really go and spend £60 million on an injury prone player, no matter how good he is.
