Liverpool star forced towards Anfield exit after shock development
Andoni Iraola has his work cut out for him at Liverpool this summer.
The Spaniard has just taken over as the Reds' boss after Arne Slot's massive failure.
Liverpool spent over £450 million during the 2025-26 summer transfer window with most people thinking they'd easily retain the Premier League title and perhaps even win the Champions League.
Things obviously didn't work out like that and, by the end of the season, the Anfield outfit looked like a fraction of their former selves after they finished fifth in the top flight.
These poor performances have led to fans questioning what's next with several members of Liverpool's first-team squad now being linked with exits in order to make room for some new arrivals.
But, for one Liverpool player, his potential exit will come as quite a shock to the Reds' fanbase.
Cody Gakpo could exit Liverpool if Rio Ngumoha is chosen over him
Cody Gakpo has been a source of frustration for fans this season.
Even though the Dutchman was often one of the first names on Slot's team sheet, he rarely had two good games in a row.
Whether he was used on the left wing or as a striker, the attacker just didn't hit the mark, especially when his performances under Jurgen Klopp are taken into account.
This lack of form led to fans asking for him to be dropped for Rio Ngumoha and, although Slot took his time to make the decision, he finally did it towards the end of the campaign with the Englishman offering the club something they hadn't had all term.
And now, thanks to how well he played, fans are calling for Ngumoha to be their starting left-winger which hasn't gone down too well with Gakpo, that is, according to a new report from TEAMtalk.
"TEAMtalk has learned that they are one of a number of clubs who are aware of the Liverpool forward’s situation. Being informed and being interested are different things, though," they wrote.
"Alongside Spurs in being informed of developments surrounding Gakpo are Aston Villa, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Besiktas, Fenerbahce and RB Leipzig, while Bayern Munich remain interested after previously going after the Dutchman.
"Gakpo is unhappy about the prospect of being behind Rio Ngumoha in the pecking order, leading to clubs being sounded out for him."
Selling Cody Gakpo could earn Liverpool a lot of money
Even though Gakpo wasn't at his best this season, his quality is still there.
The Dutchman was one of Klopp's most important players and, even during Slot's Premier League-winning campaign, the trio he formed with Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz was phenomenal.
Gakpo is still only 27 years old so he has plenty of time left in his career to continue making an impact.
But, since the former PSV man has only just extended his contract, his sale could earn Liverpool an awful lot of money with a fee worth around £70million being required to prise Gakpo from Anfield.
Gakpo's sale could get the Reds' transfer window off to a solid start and would allow them to reinvest the money into the rest of their team.
And, since most of Liverpool's fans have seen how bad he can be, selling him for anywhere near £70 would certainly be well recieved.
