Liverpool star delivers HOPE with Alexander Isak injury update
Liverpool have been given positive news on Alexander Isak in a quick update from one teammate. Fingers crossed for the club record signing.
Alexander Isak delivered exactly the kind of moment Liverpool dreamed of on Saturday as he opened the scoring against Tottenham Hotspur. The Swede got on the end of Florian Wirtz' through-ball to finish.
And that's why Liverpool spent over £200m on the pair. Wirtz's creativity is seen as the perfect match for Isak's goal-hunting but we haven't really seen what the pair can deliver.
Part of that has been Isak's fitness issues. Part of it is because Liverpool aren't functioning properly as a team.
But Saturday showed the potential there. Wirtz found some space and played a perfect pass. Isak saw the play and made a perfect run.
The goal put Liverpool in front but came at a dramatic cost. Micky van de Ven challenged the shot but clattered through Isak as he did it - a completely justifiable action but one that has consequences.
Isak was visibly in a lot of pain afterwards, failing to get up from the pitch without help. There's now real concern over what this means for the striker.
Alisson Becker on Alexander Isak’s injury
Alisson Becker was asked about the injury after the game and his initial impression was that Isak would be‘ okay. Of course, Alisson isn’t exactly a doctor but it does sound like he’s been told positive things about his teammate.
“I think he’ll be okay,” he said, per Stadium Astro. “Happy for him for scoring the goal but of course we don’t want him to be injured.
“Hopefully it’s just a knock, nothing too serious, because he can help our team so much with his quality and that’s what we hope.”
We’ll wait and see, then. If Alisson is right, then this could well be the start of something special for Isak as it truly was exactly the type of goal Liverpool want from him.
But it’s still very possible that this is a serious injury. Alisson’s little update is great to hear - but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for Liverpool’s no.9.
