Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid is the most recent of them all and he is widely considered to be a traitor for the way he conducted himself. Moves for Michael Owen and Steve McManaman to the same destination weren't received too well either at the time.

Of course, Luis Suarez and Phillipe Coutinho move to Barcelona instead and the amount of money they brought to the club as part of their transfer fees certainly helped to cushion the blow of losing them, but their departures were still painful in their own way - both at the peak of their powers.

However, a beneficial La Liga move for one of Liverpool's talents may on the cards to break the cycle.

Liverpool set to negotiate with La Liga again

The player linked with a potential move is the young Welsh striker Lewis Koumas, who has recently been receiving opportunities in the first-team during domestic cup matches under Arne Slot.

As with Jayden Danns in the academy, he's keen to start knocking on the door for regular football.

However, with new signing Will Wright having joined the Reds from Salford, the pair's task is not set to get any easier, especially since Hugo Ekitike has signed for £79m and Alexander Isak is favoured.

So it is to be expected that his future is going to be assessed this summer and the world is his oyster.

According to Ian Doyle at the Liverpool Echo, there are several clubs interested in the talented No. 9.

Their latest report said: "Lewis Koumas, the Welsh international striker, is also gaining interest regards both a loan and permanent move.

"A host of second-tier teams - Norwich City, Sheffield United, Hull City, Preston North End, Oxford and promoted duo Birmingham City and Wrexham - have all expressed interest.

"Koumas has also been the subject of an inquiry from Spanish side Sevilla, who narrowly avoided relegation from La Liga last season."

Of course, it's clear that Koumas will have his fair share of options to consider, beside the chance to play in Spain, but when European sides come knocking, it can be difficult to ignore the opportunity.

Ideally a loan move would be the path Liverpool decide to take since the player is still a teenager, but everything will need to be considered before a decision is made. His six goals at Stoke last season will no doubt have brought more teams to the table and he's proven himself in the Championship.

Perhaps a more continental move is now on the cards, which would be really exciting to see.
