Liverpool are in the midst of a serious injury crisis, and the players know it.

In the build-up to Saturday’s Premier League victory over Wolves, there were serious doubts over the Reds’ ability to play a full starting XI of senior players.

In the end, 14 senior out-field players made the squad, and the bench was filled with two goalkeepers and a number of academy stars including Wellity Lucky and Rio Ngumoha.

Seeing the likes of Nhumoha and Trey Nyoni on the bench has become a familiar sight for Liverpool supporters, with injuries persisting over the last few months.

Ibrahima Konate had been a doubt heading into the weekend but by playing, the Frenchman has dropped an exciting hint about his future at Anfield.

Konate’s dedication is a hint at Anfield future

After the Wolves match, Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Konate had been sick in the week building up to the match and only returned to training the day before playing.

It is understood that the Frenchman was not fully fit for Saturday’s game but did not want to leave Liverpool short with injuries mounting.

With barely six months remaining on his contract, the 26-year-old showing such dedication to his side is surely a sign that he wishes to continue his career at Anfield.

Negotiations are ongoing over a new contract for the central defender, who has been a key part of the Reds’ team since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021.

How much would Liverpool miss Konate?

Having already lost one cornerstone of the defence for next to nothing last summer, when Trent Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid, the thought of losing Konate for free at the end of this season isn’t an appealing one.

Liverpool are clearly a centre half short this season, with an injury to Giovanni Leoni leaving Joe Gomez as the only back-up to Konate and Virgil van Dijk, and Arne Slot’s side are heavily rumoured to be looking for defensive reinforcements this winter.

Owing to the Reds’ lack of depth at the back, Konate has started every Premier League and Champions League match for his side this campaign.

Losing a player for free that has been relied on that heavily the season prior would be nothing short of a disaster for Liverpool, so hopes that Konate will sign a new deal at Anfield are high.

Konate is clearly dedicated to Liverpool, he showed as much by making sure he was fit to play on Saturday, and his loyalty is surely a hint at his wishes for his career beyond this season.
