Forgotten Liverpool star has chance to save his career vs Barnsley
Liverpool's form this season has been rather questionable.
Although the 2025-26 campaign started well, things quickly turned sour with the club losing several games in a row.
This resulted in some heavy rotation from Arne Slot with players such as Mohamed Salah regularly left on the sidelines.
In some ways, Slot trying out different members of his squad is a good thing but the fact that there are some who haven't had any sort of look in is a tad confusing.
And, since their next game is set to come against Barnsley in the FA Cup, it feels like now would be the perfect time for the Dutchman to unleash some of those forgotten players to see if they have what it takes to make it at Anfield.
Calvin Ramsay could save his Liverpool career against Barnsley
One of Liverpool's main problem area this season has been their defence.
Players such as Milos Kerkez and Ibrahima Konate have failed to live up to expectations which has often left the Reds in a spot of bother.
And, since Conor Bradley is now out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, questions are being asked about who's likely to fill in for the Northern Irishman.
One option which has emerged is Calvin Ramsay. The Scotsman has already played a game for Liverpool this season against Crystal Palace and with Bradley now out, this could be his chance for redemption.
Monday will likely see Slot heavily rotate his starting XI and since Joe Gomez, Jeremie Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai have already played a lot of football this term, the Dutchman could turn towards Ramsay on Monday.
If Slot does choose to play the right-back and he puts in an impressive performance, he could help plug the gap at right-back for the rest of the term, thus saving his career.
Arne Slot must trust Calvin Ramsay on Monday
One thing that Slot has made clear during his time in charge of Liverpool is that he has favourites.
Cody Gakpo is one of the best examples of this as the Dutchman has been miles off the pace this term but he's often one of the first names on Slot's team sheet.
Despite this, Monday's tie against Barnsley feels like the best chance Ramsay will ever get to prove his worth.
He's still only 22 years old which means that there's plenty of time for him to fulfil the potential he showed at the early stages of his career.
So, if Slot goes against the grain and actually gives one of his youngsters a chance, he may end up getting pleasantly surprised.
