Euro giants now 'serious' about Liverpool transfer

Liverpool have been linked with countless opportunities for transfers to and from Anfield this summer.

Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande have been the two main players to dominate headlines but now, it feels like a deal for Ibrahim Mbaye could also be on the cards.

So, while many rumours about the future of Liverpool's team have been shared, the fact that no other deals apart from Victor Munoz's and Jeremy Jacquet's have gotten over the line yet is rather concerning.

However, as with anything in football, things can change in an instant and, by the end of the summer transfer window, an entirely new-look team could be under Andoni Iraola's ruling.

That is, especially since Liverpool are a sell-to-buy team.

Tottenham believe that Cody Gakpo is the 'missing link' within their team

Cody Gakpo's future has been under some major scrutiny over the last couple of weeks.

The Dutchman was in terrible form last term and, even though most people thought that he would thrive thanks to Luis Diaz's exit, he actually crumbled and was one of Liverpool's worst attackers.

The fact that he was mostly used as a left-winger throughout the entire campaign doesn't bode all that well for him either.

So, thanks to this lack of form and his inability to do anything else but cut in from the left, it's not a surprise to see him linked with a move away.

Talk of Gakpo's exit seemed to die down over the last week or so but now, thanks to an update from Voetbal International, it now seems like Tottenham are ready to step their chase back up for the attacker.

"Rumors regarding European clubs for Gakpo have been simmering for weeks," they wrote.

"The Dutch left winger is primarily linked to Tottenham Hotspur. That interest is now becoming serious. The English club sees the Eindhoven native as the missing link to rejoin the top of English football.

"Multiple sources confirm to VI Spurs' desire to sign Gakpo. Manager Roberto De Zerbi is fanatically building a new team. Fellow international Jan Paul van Hecke has already been bought, joining from Brighton & Hove Albion for sixty million euros.

"In addition, players such as Andrew Robertson (Liverpool), Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth), Mateus Fernandes (West Ham United), and Sandro Tonali (Newcastle United) have transferred to North London."

As mentioned, Liverpool's main priority at the moment is to improve their attack.

Mohamed Salah is gone and, with nobody knowing when Hugo Ekitike will return, their forward line is massively lacking depth-wise.

But, with deals for Barcola and Mbaye edging closer, it does feel like Liverpool could be on the right track.

In fact, reports have emerged that have suggested that Barcola is going to be Gakpo's replacement.

On the face of things, this makes total sense as, realistically, the Frenchman isn't a right-winger and, although he can play there if needed, he's much better off when used in his natural position.

But, just because Liverpool may have a deal lined up to replace Gakpo, doesn't mean that they should let him go on the cheap.

The 27-year-old is a versatile Premier League-proven player who has only just extended his stay at Anfield.

So, with almost every part of the deal playing in Liverpool's favour, they can't just let their Premier League rivals sign him for a minimal fee, if anything, they should play hard to get and test how much Roberto de Zerbi and Spurs really want him.
