Euro club chief admits agent ‘fought hard’ to secure ‘difficult’ Liverpool deal

Arne Slot has had to deal with a lot since he took the job as Liverpool's manager.

Initially, the Dutchman took over from Jurgen Klopp which was always going to be a difficult task in itself.

Despite this, he managed to prove the doubters wrong and win the Premier League title at the first time of asking.

Since then, he's undertaken a massive overhaul at the club which saw several players both leave and join the Anfield outfit.

Although fans were disappointed about the sales of some players, the Reds often put up a decent fight to keep hold of their talent with one Euro club chief even admitting that a deal was very "difficult" to agree upon with the Reds.

Luis Diaz was arguably the biggest-named Liverpool player to pack his bags during the summer transfer window.

The Colombian was coming off the back of his best ever season for the Anfield outfit but, with only two years left on his deal and no signs of a contract agreement being put into place, the Reds chose to sell up.

Most fans were happy with the fee that Liverpool recieved as it was in excess of £60 million for a 28-yea-old.

However, after the form he's been in for Bayern Munich this season, plenty of fans have started to regret their desire for the Colombian to exit, especially with how poor Cody Gakpo has been.

And now, just a few months after the deal was completed Bayern president Uli Hoeness has admitted that Liverpool didn't allow Diaz to leave without a fight.

"Yes. Luis Díaz's agent, for example, fought hard to bring him from Liverpool, which was very difficult," he said to Bild.

"He invested everything for his client and still always spoke fairly with Liverpool. We're happy to pay a man like that."

Without the sale of Diaz in the summer, it's unlikely that Liverpool would've signed as many top talents as they did.

Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike were all brought in to try and strengthen the Reds' ranks and, although each of them have positively contributed to Liverpool in one way or another this season, it's hard to not think about how important Diaz could've been this term.

Many fans thought that Gakpo would thrive without having any competition for left-wing but, it seems like his progress has actually regressed.

The Dutchman has been one of Liverpool's most disappointing players this season and, even though others such as Mohamed Salah haven't been up to scratch either, at least fans are starting to see the best side of the Egyptian King in his latest performances.

Diaz's inclusion in Slot's plans would've helped add another layer to their attack rather than just having two wingers who always want to cut in.

Of course, it's easy to say all of this now that the deed has been done but, in reality, even if Liverpool were going to lose the Colombian for nothing at the end of next season, he could've been a massive help to the club this term.
