Arne Slot makes Calvin Ramsay decision ahead of Brighton

Liverpool's injury list has been getting longer throughout most of the 2025-26 season.

In the past, the Reds have struggled with injuries but this time around, their problems seem to be centred around their defence.

Indeed, Alexander Isak and Wataru Endo are now set to be out for a few months but the fact that Joe Gomez, Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley have all had extended stints on the sidelines is massively concerning.

These injuries are one of the main reasons why the Anfield outfit have suffered this term and is likely to be one of the main reasons that they don't retain the Premier League title.

Despite all this, Calvin Ramsay has hardly been given a look-in with Arne Slot now making a decision about whether or not he's going to start the FA Cup tie against Brighton on Saturday.

Arne Slot makes final decision on Calvin Ramsay's inclusion at Liverpool

Ever since Bradley and Frimpong were both ruled out for extended periods, fans have begged Slot to give Ramsay a chance to prove his worth.

The right-back is now 22 years old and, although he's not on the same level as the aforementioned duo, there's surely going to be a point when Slot has no other choice but to start him.

That is, especially since Endo is now expected to be side-lined for some time.

Although fans want the Scotsman to be given a chance, it seems like he's going to have to wait even longer to prove his ability to the Anfield faithful.

That is, according to The Athletic who shared the following about Ramsay's chances of playing against Brighton on Saturday.

"Slot must decide who to entrust with that role for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield. He has been reluctant to turn to Calvin Ramsay as he doesn’t believe the 22-year-old Scottish defender is ready," they wrote.

"Szoboszlai will be available and Gomez could also start there, although the club’s longest-serving player will be needed at centre-back if either Van Dijk or Konate are given a breather."

Arne Slot could live to regret not giving Calvin Ramsay a chance to start for Liverpool

Although Ramsay was chosen to play start Crystal Palace back in October, since then, the young Scotsman hasn't managed to get back onto the pitch.

He played the full 90 minutes against the Eagles and, although the Anfield outfit were beaten 3-0, it still felt like he put in a solid shift.

Of course, the Reds have several players who can be used at right-back if needed but, when you have a player who can naturally play in that position just sat on the bench, questions are going to be asked.

Indeed, Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to be the player chosen to start at right-back against Brighton, but, one thing that was made clear about his last outing against Manchester City is that the Reds' midfield suffers without him playing there.

Ramsay could offer Slot the chance to find a short-term fix for his defensive problems and, even if he doesn't do all that well, at least Joe Gomez or Ibrahima Konate would be there to cover him and guide him.

There's obviously no knowing what's going to happen on Saturday but, if Liverpool don't give their first-team regulars enough rest, more injuries could be on their way.
