Amazing news, Liverpool given massive hope over striker
Liverpool have been given the hope they were after over a key striker. Andoni Iraola may have him after all.
Andoni Iraola is in a difficult spot when it comes to strikers. Alexander Isak is essentially the only one 'active' right now, and he's not set to link up with his new coach for a little while yet.
Hugo Ekitiké, who admittedly would have been with France if he were fit, has a serious injury. He won't be around until potentially the New Year.
And it should be remembered that Isak's injury record last season was awful. He hasn't been the most reliable player and absolutely needs cover if Iraola is to have an easy go of it.
It's why there's so much pressure on Jayden Danns, who should have spent the last couple of seasons as a third-choice striker. The Scouser is the one who should be ready to lead the line in pre-season, potentially earning more minutes heading into the season.
However, Danns has battled injuries for a while now that have dramatically affected his time on the pitch. Iraola then dropped a bit of a bombshell this week when he said Danns wasn't ready to play because of an injury suffered with the Under 21s.
Now, everyone took that to mean that the forward was injured again. Jack Lusby with This Is Anfield, however, reports that Danns is not injured again. Instead, the injury he picked up is his previous one.
Liverpool are still carefully managing his return from that. They don't want to take any chances with Danns out of a hope that he can put the problems behind him and find some momentum.
Because there's no doubt that Danns can make it at the elite level. He's got just about everything you could want and has already demonstrated an ability to score key goals.
If the injuries can become a thing of the past, there's a role for him in the squad. And Liverpool are doing all they can to make that a reality.
