All parties now confident: record-breaking Liverpool deal will happen

All parties are said to be confident that a record-breaking Liverpool deal will happen. It’s just a matter of time, it seems.

Liverpool are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Bradley Barcola as they finally look to get their hands on a new winger. The Reds struggled from wide positions last season and losing Mohamed Salah, who was still their most productive winger despite a difficult campaign, left to make matters worse.

Replacing Salah like-for-like is virtually impossible, especially in a market that's truly awful right now. That has Liverpool looking at the left flank instead, and hoping to sign Barcola from PSG.

The problem has been the asking price. PSG aren't willing to let their player leave for anything remotely considered 'cheap'. Initial figures were quoted at €180m, which would be the third-highest transfer fee in history.

Quite a lot of money for a player who isn't actually in PSG's best XI.

But it does seem that a deal will get done for less than that. L'Equipe report that all parties are now confident that a deal will get done, likely at around the €150m range.

Liverpool, for what it's worth, hope to agree it for closer to €120m. It's PSG driving the higher price - perhaps the ultimate fee will be somewhere in the middle.

The important thing here, though, is that Liverpool are close. It sounds more and more likely that Barcola does move to Anfield, as he seems to want to do.

PSG remain in the market for wingers, and should sign Maghnes Akliouche in the coming days. Such deals will only drive the Barcola deal further along and we think it's very likely at this stage that Liverpool get their man.

Whether he'll prove to be worth €120m+ is another matter...
