22-goal Liverpool star to exit Anfield before pre-season
Liverpool are going to have to move a lot of their players on this summer.
The Anfield outfit spent a lot of money in the last summer transfer window which means that they'll have to sell some of their own before making any major investments into new players.
A deal for Victor Munoz has obviously been struck already but, for someone such as Yan Diomande who's expected to cost over £80 million to sign, it feels like Liverpool will have to re-jig their ranks before bringing him in.
This is why several members of Andoni Iraola's squad have already been linked with exits with one of players potentially about to leave before the Reds' pre-season has even kicked off.
Inter Milan want to sign Curtis Jones before the start of their pre-season
At the moment, Curtis Jones is the most likely player to leave Liverpool this summer.
The Englishman's contract runs out in the summer of 2027 and, since the two parties have failed to reach an agreement on an extension yet, now is the last chance that the Reds will have to cash in on him.
Links with Jones' exit have been around for some time now with Inter the main team vying for his transfer back in January.
And, even though a move never worked out then, they never stopped looking at making a move for him with the Serie A giants now wanting to sign him this summer.
Although most Liverpool fans expect him to leave, a fresh report from La Gazzetta dello Sport has shared when Inter want the deal done by.
"The goalkeeper, central defender, and midfielder are close. Chivu would like them available in Germany starting July 16th," they wrote.
"If the investment in the Atalanta-owned winger will restructure the right flank, other positions will need to be restructured, and the club's exit poll confirms that the most likely candidates are Provedel, Solet, and Jones.
"Each player faces a different transfer market situation, but all of them - along with Palestra - could find themselves in Germany wearing the Nerazzurri shirt.
"The Jones situation is different. There's still confidence in reaching an agreement with Liverpool, but the Reds remain resistant, as they intend to cash in on the English midfielder's €30 million sale, including a percentage of his future resale value.
"Inter, for their part, are stuck with around 20 players and are waiting, confident in the player's desire and a contract expiring in just a year.
"But aside from the World Cup squad (six: Akanji, Calhanoglu, Sucic, Bonny, Lautaro, and Thuram), Chivu will be able to begin his training camp with a large portion of his squad available. Both the 'old' and the new players."
Liverpool must source a replacement for Curtis Jones before selling him
If Arne Slot was still in charge of Liverpool, Jones would have already been sold.
The Dutchman rarely trusted the Englishman to play and, when he did, he was often used out of position.
He may have been handed a decent amount of playing time this term but, since most of it came while he was in right-back, it's hard to say that Slot really gave him a fair chance to prove his worth, despite having already scored 22-goals for Liverpool.
But, since he's gone and Iraola is now the man at the helm, there's still a tiny bit of hope that Jones stays put as his style of play perfectly matches to the Spaniards.
However, since Inter are pushing to get a deal done, it feels like the Reds will move him on over the next couple of weeks.
Before they do this, they really need to figure out who can replace the 25-year-old as, with Alexis Mac Allister potentially leaving too, Liverpool's midfield could become a massive problem area.
Khephren Thuram and Lamine Camara have been eyed as potential options but, since both of them would cost much more than Jones' sale would bring in, it feels pointless to sell the Englishman.
There's obviously no knowing what Iraola and Richard Hughes' plans are this summer but, if they don't manage to keep Jones and end up having to replace him, fans will be far from pleased.
