Why signing a right-back is KEY to replacing Mo Salah for Liverpool

Liverpool’s recent poor form has everyone talking about the January transfer window already.

Even though there are still weeks until the window officially opens, plans are already being made to try and revive the Reds’ season.

A number of positions need addressing but the club’s summer spending spree could limit the funds available to Richard Hughes.

Following a very public falling out with head coach Arne Slot, Mohamed Salah’s future remains up in the air and a January sale looks firmly on the cards.

The task of replacing Salah isn’t a simple one, but a signing in a different position could buy Liverpool some time.

Sign a right-back to replace Mo Salah

One of the many names linked with a January move to Merseyside is Galatasaray right-back Wilfried Singo.

The 24-year-old only joined the Turkish team in the summer, but he is already attracting attention from a number of sides.

Although Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong have both suffered with injury this season, Joe Gomez has proven to be suitable back up and right-back doesn’t appear an immediate priority for Liverpool in the winter window.

The signing of Singo however could help solve the issue of trying to replace Salah or at least buy the club some time.

The addition of another right back would allow summer signing Frimpong to take over Salah’s attacking duties, giving Liverpool some time to properly assess the situation before splashing the cash on Salah’s replacement.

Would Singo be a good addition for Liverpool?

Although Frimpong is unlikely to be the long-term fix to Liverpool’s attack, he could provide a much-needed boost to steady the ship whilst a natural forward is brought in.

Singo would be very capable back up to Bradley, and a relatively low fee wouldn’t impact the reigning Premier League champions too much.

The only initial issue with Singo’s arrival could be his continued participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, with the final not due to be played until 18 January.

If the Ivory Coast make it to the final then Singo would likely not arrive at Anfield until the end of January.

Frimpong may have already been filling in for Salah whilst the Egyptian is also away on international duty, so Singo's arrival could provide some much-needed relief for Bradley at right-back.

Salah’s exit is not certain, but if Frimpong does prove a capable attacker then signing Wilfried Singo represents a unique opportunity to strengthen the team and buy Hughes some time to fully assess the options available to replace Salah long-term.
