The next Daniel Sturridge is here and he's brilliant

The next Daniel Sturridge has arrived on the scene and he is brilliant for Liverpool.

Sturridge is often remembered for what injuries took away from him, but it is easy to forget just how extraordinary he was at his peak.

Liverpool didn't just have a goalscorer. They had one of the most complete forwards the club has ever seen.

Sturridge was so much more than a traditional No.9. He had the instincts of a penalty-box striker, but he also possessed the qualities of a winger and a playmaker. He could drift wide, isolate defenders and beat them one-on-one with ease.

His acceleration was electric, yet it was his footwork that truly set him apart. In tight spaces, he could glide past challenges with a series of quick touches that left defenders flat-footed.

There was genuine magic in the way he played.

In many ways, Sturridge felt like a blend of two legendary forwards.

He had flashes of the original Ronaldo's explosive dribbling and ability to burst through defensive lines, combined with Thierry Henry's elegance, composure and effortless finishing. It was a rare combination that made him almost impossible to defend when fully fit.

His goal catalogue gives you the perfect picture. There were delicate chips over advancing goalkeepers, thunderous strikes from outside the box, instinctive first-time finishes, curling efforts into the far corner and towering headers. Every type of finish seemed to come naturally to him.

That unpredictability is what made Sturridge so special. Defenders never knew what was coming because he could hurt them in so many different ways.

For that reason alone, Sturridge deserves to be remembered as one of the finest and most multi-faceted forwards ever to wear a Liverpool shirt.

He is also a great example of what a striker should be. There are so many forwards who categorise themselves as one type of forward.

Whether it's being a target man or someone who runs in behind defences or a false nine. Sturridge was a bit of everything, and those are the best kinds of strikers - even though they are rare.

Forwards like Sturridge are so rare you kind of do everything you possibly can to sign them when they do come around.

And there is a young forward who is breaking onto the scene exactly of Sturridge's ilk, who is perfectly suited for Liverpool and who the Reds' recruitment team should follow closely because he is absolutely brilliant.

18-year-old Ugandan forward James Bogere has already made a lot of history. He is the youngest ever player to play an African Cup of Nations game for his country. He is also the first player to score a goal for his country at any World Cup tournament, after he netted in the U17 World Cup last year.

And he is quickly becoming one of the country's new superstars.

Bogere caught the eye at the U17 AFCON and then the U17 World Cup last year before making the move to AGF in Denmark in January.

There within minutes of his debut he scored a phenomenal last-gasp winner for his team to help them secure the Danish Superliga title.

He followed that up with a brace in the Champions League qualifiers for AGF earlier this week. A brace that now means he has scored three goals in just over 300 minutes of action for his club side.

It's a brilliant start for the 18-year-old, who really does have shades of prime Sturridge about him. Bogere is comfortable in one vs one situations, he is quick and he is a silky and intelligent player.

He's also a versatile finisher. For his brace in the Champions League he scored with both his right and his left foot. Both really good finishes into the top corner as well.

At such a young age, he's got everything to be very special and he's making it clear right now that the next Sturridge has finally arrived on the scene.
