Richard Hughes must sign 'fantastic' wonderkid for Liverpool
Arne Slot is likely to make even more changes to Liverpool's first-team squad in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Dutchman has already added Jeremy Jacquet to his ranks and, since the Anfield outfit clearly need to bring in some more players to stay competitive, it would be a massive surprise not to see several more deals agreed.
However, if they want to spend a decent amount of money on improving their ranks, that could mean that certain players will have to be moved on once again.
Harvey Elliott is likely to be on the chopping block with Aston Villa seemingly not wanting to make his stay permanent.
Alongside the Englishman, others such as Federico Chiesa and maybe even Kostas Tsimikas could be sold which would help the Reds out massively.
And, as per a fresh update from David Lynch, it's now clear why someone such as Mateus Mane is being targeted by the Anfield outfit.
Liverpool signing Mateus Mane makes complete sense after Federico Chiesa update
As mentioned, Liverpool have already been linked with several players this summer.
Wolves' Mane is one of them and, although he'd cost the club around £50 million, his arrival makes plenty of sense.
That is, if an update from Lynch is to be believed.
"It’s interesting though [Liverpool being interested in Mane] because I think this is the summer that Federico Chiesa will go, so signing that multi-functional forward that they can develop would make a lot more sense," he said on the Anfield Index Podcast.
Liverpool will need a versatile attacker if Federico Chiesa is moved on during the summer transfer window
Although Chiesa hasn't really had a major role to play for Liverpool during his two years at the club, it's hard to deny that his versatility isn't one of the best things that he bring to the Anfield outfit.
The fact that the Italian can play anywhere across the front three makes him an incredibly valuable asset, especially when the Reds' recent injury history is taken into account.
However, due to his lack of playing time under Slot, it's hardly surprising to see him constantly linked with an exit.
And, since most of the Reds' other attacking targets aren't all that versatile, it's clear that Mane, who was once described as a "fantastic" player by Rob Edwards, is the player that the club should be going for.
Not only is the 18-year-old classed as homegrown but he can be used anywhere across the front three and even as a central midfielder if needed.
He also has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt and, even though he'd cost Liverpool around £50 million to prise away from the Molineux, his price tag is an awful lot nicer than Yan Diomande's.
Of course, there's still an awful lot of time until the summer transfer window comes around but with most of Europe's top clubs looking to sign the best players possible, Liverpool will have to move quickly to sign their transfer targets.
Here's hoping that the 2026-27 summer transfer window is as impressive as last summer's.
