Richard Hughes managed to avoid massive Liverpool transfer mistake in January
Towards the end of the January transfer window, Liverpool were trying their best to solve their defensive issues.
The Anfield outfit suffered several injuries towards the end of January with Arne Slot being left with no senior right-backs among his ranks apart from Calvin Ramsay.
And, even though the Scotsman was their only natural option, Slot admitted that he still had better options to choose from among his ranks.
However, this didn't stop them from making moves for Denzel Dumfries and Lutsharel Geertruida.
Obviously, neither of these moves came to fruition but, there was another player who the Reds enquired about which would have ended up being a huge mistake.
Liverpool made a 'serious enquiry' for Jayden Bogle in the summer
Even though Jayden Bogle has been in decent form for Leeds United when he's been called upon, he's clearly not the quality of player that Liverpool should be trying to sign.
The Englishman is only 25 years old so he could end up becoming better than he currently is, but in reality, he'd only be a stop-gap solution.
Obviously, that didn't stop the Reds from asking about a move for the right-back but it feels like a really strange transfer for Liverpool to even think about.
Indeed, they may have been desperate but, even with this in mind, the thought of Bogle playing for Liverpool is mental.
The summer transfer window is still a few months away but, even if Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones need to be used at right-back at any point during the season, utilising their versatility makes much more sense, even if the Reds' midfield isn't as strong without them.
Arne Slot and Richard Hughes must sign a new right-back for Liverpool in the summer
Even though Geertruida and Bogle aren't likely to be options that Liverpool will want to explore in the summer, Dumfries could re-emerge as a target.
It's clear that the Dutchman wants to leave Inter Milan this summer and, since he's already 29 years old, this is likely to be his last chance to make a Premier League move.
Of course, the defender being as old as he is could be a slight problem for the Anfield outfit but, with the amount of Champions League experience he has, he could be a valuable addition.
The former PSV man already has a solid relationship with Jeremie Frimpong due to their international outings and, Dumfries' arrival would also allow Frimpong to put his attacking prowess to good use.
There's obviously no knowing what plans Hughes and Slot have for Liverpool this summer but, if the rumour mill is anything to go by, the Reds' fans should ready themselves for another busy window.
But, if Bogle end up re-entering the conversation, some serious questions will need to be asked, especially if the Reds are wanting to win the Premier League and perhaps even the Champions League next term.
