£29m winger confirms he is Arne Slot’s most IMPORTANT signing

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes added a fair few new faces to Liverpool's ranks in the summer transfer window.

The Reds were one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League last season with many thinking that their new signings would only improve their performances.

However, this wasn't the case with the Anfield outfit often being the second-best team on the pitch throughout most of their 2025-26 campaign.

But, now that Slot's newbies have trained and performed alongside one another for over half a season, the real talent of those players finally seems to be emerging.

And, since the Reds find themselves on a bit of an unbeaten run at the moment, it's now becoming clearer which of Slot's summer signings are becoming his most important.

Arne Slot hints at importance of Jeremie Frimpong at Liverpool

Over the last few weeks, some of Liverpool's first-team squad have really come into their own with Jeremie Frimpong being one of their stand-out players.

The right-back has suffered a fair few injuries already this term, but, now that he's fit and is currently Liverpool's only natural right-back, it's his time to shine.

And, to be honest, he's taken his chance and ran with it.

At the start of the 2025-26 campaign, the Dutchman failed to live up to expectations with some even questioning why Liverpool chose to spend £29 million on him.

However, now that he's had a decent run of games and has actually been allowed to push forward and overlap his winger, his true colours are shining through.

It's clear that Frimpong is in a purple patch of form with Slot even hinting at how important winning one-on-one duels is to him this term.

"I’ve said this already 15 times, but I heard Pep (Guardiola) saying the importance of players who dominate 1vs1, maybe when he says it, people put more emphasis on it," Slot said in quotes relayed by The Athletic.

Jeremie Frimpong could be Liverpool's answer to replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold

The exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer was something that was expected by Liverpool and their fans for some time.

And even though his transfer to Real Madrid was expected, it still hurt fans that one of their own could just pack their bags and leave without any sort of remorse.

Initially, Florian Wirtz was brought in to try and fill the creative void left by the Englishman, but, with Frimpong's recent performances taken into account, it's clear that the Dutchman is the man for the job.

His ability to bolt up and down the wing without losing any sort of speed is second-to-none and without him in Liverpool's starting XI during their Champions League win against Marseille, the result would've likely been much different.

To be honest, his quality was always there but moving from the Bundesliga to the Premier League was always going to be a massive step-up.

And, even though fans had some doubt starting to creep in about the defender, it now feels like the 25-year-old will be able to settle into his role of being Liverpool's starting right-back with no issues.

Here's hoping that his purple patch of form continues, especially if the Reds want to win a trophy this season.
