Newcastle United have made a stunning late bid for one of Liverpool's transfer targets. Will the Reds react?

Liverpool are running out of time in the transfer market and they’re starting to feel the crunch. Do they even have enough time to get through the deals they want to make?

Bradley Barcola is certainly on that list, as is Yankuba Minteh. Ibrahim Mbaye is another option, while they’ve been linked to a whole host of others, too.

One of those is Matias Fernandez-Pardo at Lille. The Athletic are among those reporting that he’s been considered and he’s one of the few top young talents available who hasn’t sorted his future out.

Liverpool continue to be linked with him and we’re massive fans here. In fact, we’ve pushed for his signature all summer long - the Reds have just landed on other options thus far.

But given those options haven’t actually arrived, Fernandez-Pardo remains a top option for Liverpool. For now, anyway: time is running out.

News broke on Sunday that RB Leipzig had made an offer for the Belgian forward and hope to snap him up as, essentially, their next-big-thing after Yan Diomande. Now Newcastle United have entered the race.

L’Equipe report of a €40m bid from the Magpies. It’s an offer that may well get them the player - and that would be that as far as Liverpool are concerned. Another option off the table late in the day.

Fernandez-Pardo, though, fits the bill. He can play through the middle and on either flank, while he put up some of the best numbers of any Under 21 forward last season.

He’s a development project who can also offer a lot from the get-go, and covers the injured Hugo Ekitike, too. All in all, he fits the bill better than most forwards can and he’s available at a good price.

But as we say, time is running out. Newcastle and Leipzig both believe they can get this one over the line - a late surge from Liverpool could change that.
