Liverpool could complete INCREDIBLE move for €90m PSG star
Liverpool declined the opportunity to add a midfielder in last summer’s transfer window.
Sporting director Richard Hughes completed £450m worth of incoming deals - but left Arne Slot’s midfield options intact.
Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo worked hard for the Reds to secure the 2024/25 Premier League title.
But the strain is beginning to tell - with the Reds’ decision not to add a midfielder now looking all the more erroneous in hindsight.
Liverpool need to add to the midfield
All but Szoboszlai have suffered various injury complaints so far this season - and supplementary options such as Harvey Elliott, James McConnell and Tyler Morton have been allowed to leave the club.
The Premier League champions need to add to their midfield stock - and we could see a sensational move for a treble-winner at Paris Saint-Germain.
Although this deal looks outlandish, there is a possibility that Liverpool could pull it off.
After all, who would have thought that Hughes would end the summer with Alexander Isak? The Newcastle forward looked unattainable but Liverpool worked hard to complete a £125m deal on deadline day.
Sensational Vitinha deal in sight
There is no reason to think they couldn’t pull off a similar deal for Vitinha. The 25-year-old was the heartbeat of PSG’s treble-winning team - securing a new deal until 2029 in the process.
But Spanish sources reporting on Real Madrid’s interest have already claimed that his contract contains a €135m release clause.
Tantalisingly that clause will reduce to €90m in summer 2026.
And who wouldn’t be interested in the Portugal international at that price? Now Fichajes is claiming that Vitinha is one of THREE new players Liverpool are targeting in 2026 - as part of another major overhaul.
Vitinha a game-changer for Liverpool
It remains to be seen whether or not the Merseysiders go into the market for any of Vitinha, Eduardo Camavinga or Alessandro Bastoni.
But no doubt that Vitinha is a potential game-changing signing. The former Wolves playmaker finished on the podium for the 2025 Ballon d’Or vote and was also named to the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League team of the season.
