Liverpool have solved their centre-back crisis - for this summer at least.

A few weeks back and there appeared to be a storm brewing. Owing to various factors head coach Andoni Iraola was using the likes of Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Mor Talla Ndiaye and Luke Chambers in the middle of his defence.

But the department is looking strong for the season ahead - led by Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo among others.

Liverpool will need centre-backs in 2027

2027 will be a different story however. The Reds will be waving goodbye to Van Dijk as well as Joe Gomez when their contracts expire. And Araujo is likely to return to Barcelona if the club decline their purchase option on the Uruguayan.

That means once again a space opening up at centre-back - and Liverpool have been given serious encouragement over a possible return to the club for Jarell Quansah.

Because Spox in Germany is reporting that Liverpool will have ANOTHER chance to sign their homegrown defender from Bayer Leverkusen when a purchase clause will once again kick in.

Liverpool will get another chance to sign Quansah next year

“His contract with the club runs until 2030,” the report reads.

“Liverpool had a buy-back option this summer for either €60 or €70 million, depending on the source.

“However, the English club did not exercise this option. Liverpool will have this option again next year for Quansah, who has been with the Reds since the age of five.”

Quansah deal also wanted by Arsenal

Liverpool sold Quansah to Leverkusen last summer for a fee of around £30m. The England man has been a hit in the Bundesliga - leading to speculation that he could return to the Premier League.

Arsenal tried their best to sign the Warringtonian but plumped for Ezri Konsa instead when it became apparent that Leverkusen wouldn’t sell.

Liverpool steered clear this summer but now it looks likely that they will strike a deal for the 23-year-old in 2027 on more favourable terms.

There is another centre-back clearout coming - with Quansah providing the experience and quality for Andoni Iraola at the back.
